The Things We Know
An inverse poem
We can’t stay here forever we both know — the bed dips beneath my weight as I sit upright near you, my skirt’s zipper zings, push of buttons through holes, one by one, your hand on my back as I stand next to the bed. A kiss, sweet and bittersweet — my last walk through this door.

An inverse poem is a poem that can have its lines reversed to create a second poem that has a new/altered meaning. It’s a very difficult format to make sure the lines make sense when reversed, as well as to show how they shed light on a related theme. Fun to try, though!
