Y’all know I love a good writers’ prompt. So here’s something casual — the first of 2021.

Sometimes, things pop up in front of me that seem so hilarious, that I can’t even imagine what the initiators were thinking. And then I can’t seem to get them out of my head.

I belong to a huge variety of Facebook groups. Among some of my favorites are the Harry Nilsson group, The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Group, and The Backyard Chickens (BYC) group.

My interests are eclectic.

Over the past several days, I’d seen the photos from the #targetdresschallenge drift by on my feed from the Backyard Chickens group.

I didn’t think much of it, other than that the photos looked cute.

This morning, I stopped to study it more closely, given that someone threw down a gauntlet that said, “I guess not a lot of people are doing the Target Dress Challenge.”

I do love a good challenge.

I quickly went and searched for the hashtag on facebook. Found all the posts, and took a quick video. For use in this post.

Some of these are hilarious. My favorite post comment is “Target has decided if we’re going to suffer a pandemic, we might as well look like we just lost the farm after locusts ate our crops.” I love the idea of satirizing a fashion idea.

But these are chicken people. Not comedians. Not comedy writers.

I wondered, can we raise the bar?

I then went to my Medium main page. Not a single person has posted about this silliness.

There is a window of opportunity here! So maybe we should take it.

Write a funny story. Get your best prairie dress on and do your own photo shoot. Accessorize! Tag me and others to play along. If Marla Bishop and Don Feazelle grab ahold of this, pray for Medium. Pray for Twitter.

Might be just the fun you need this week?

I think I ditched all my prairie dresses when I started working for IBM. This whole thing would be even funnier if I hadn’t actually grown up in Pennsylvania wearing these dresses.

May have to go shopping at Target.
