Turner Falls has been known locally as the tallest waterfall in the state of Oklahoma at 77 feet high, although recently another waterfall in the state has reached the same height.

Located just off Interstate 35 in southern Oklahoma, Turner Falls Park is one place I am glad we didn’t miss this trip around.

We camped at Chickasaw National Recreation Area for a couple of days and were only a short distance from Turner Falls.

Once we arrived it did cost $9.00 per person to get into the Park and that was with the over-55 discount. The park has a swimming area, a zip line, castle ruins, caves, and the waterfall area. It is definitely worth the price and the time to see.

What a beautiful park this is, and the walk to the waterfall is short and easy.

As you walk the sidewalk along the river back to the falls, don’t miss the huge castle up on the hill to your right.

Based on old English architecture, the castle was constructed with native stone and materials in the early 30’s by Doctor Ellsworth Collings. He was a professor at Oklahoma University. The buildings served as “The Bar C Ranch” Headquarters and for Dr. Collings’ summer home.

And just look at the view across the way. Who wouldn’t want a castle on a hill with a view like that?

Visitors can climb the old stone stairs and explore the different rooms and buildings of the castle. It is hard to say whether the castle or the waterfall is the best part of this park.

The Collings Castle in Turner Falls Park was created during the middle of the Great Depression. It is a very ancient fortification about which many people have stated to be haunted. This rare Oklahoma castle has an imposing structure and architecture that is hard to miss.

Continue down the sidewalk and the main attraction appears around the corner.

The walkway goes right up to the falls and swimming area which was closed on this day because it is still only March.

There are caves on the side of the mountain beside the waterfall that can be explored if one is able to scramble up there. There are three caves in the park actually.

The other two caves are close to each other towards the back of parking lot 2 and very accessible. We did not get to these other two caves.

Just look at the beach going into the pool of water. I would love to sit in this water, swim under the falls, and enjoy the view all day long. Wouldn’t you?
