The Take Away — My Opinion About Medium’s New Methods
Hard Work Never Hurt Anyone, But This is Ridiculous

This is a story of what happened when my husband had a brief stint as a loan broker many years ago. The man is brilliant in my eyes. It is what attracted me to him in the first place.
When he applied to work as a loan broker, there were many people with him, all of them applying for the same position. The elimination process of culling down until they could get to one applicant and make a decision about who was going to get the job took a really long time.
Finally, it was between himself and another applicant, and this is where the process became puzzling because both kept getting invited back each week to interview more. In the end, the other guy became angry and said, “I’ve had enough of this. I give up.” He walked away. My husband got the job.
After Dennis had been working at the bank for some time, he asked why the application process had taken so long with himself and the other guy. They told him they had done that deliberately to see who had the greatest patience. Dennis won.
Interesting. The lesson here? Never give up.
Then, the bad stuff started happening. Every month, the bank gave bonuses to the employees who generated the most money. Dennis began placing as a top earner every month.
We enjoyed it. We especially enjoyed getting that extra money. Then the bank began to raise the bonus threshold and make it more difficult for people to earn those bonuses. This happened several months in a row.
We were angry about it, and eventually, Dennis found another job. Thinking about it now, I realize the bank had done the same thing they had done when they originally hired Dennis.
It was just business.
Except, I see how there is a correlation between how Medium has been with us lately.
It stings. But, in the long run, it will be better for us and bad for the company, which appears to be up for the quickest profit no matter who gets in the way. Who is getting in the way of Medium’s current business practices? That’s us. And what are we going to do? Hey, it stings.
Step away somehow. I don’t believe they really want us anymore.
If your writing has improved, that is all well and good. Don’t expect to earn much at Medium or get the audience you had in the past. It just is never going to work. Not with what Medium is doing these days in changing things without us really understanding what the fuck is going on.
What am I doing? I’m thinking about writing books. I’m thinking about narrating my books. I’m thinking about making something for YouTube. I’m thinking about making an author’s website.
I surely don’t see a future at Medium anymore. Maybe they are trying to get the kinks out of the system. I think I am being generous with that one. Maybe they are doing what the bank did so long ago to my husband.
Maybe I need to get out of their way.
The Psychic in me says, “If it burns, take your hand away from the flame. Don’t keep beating your head against a rock wall. Forward movement beats being stuck in a mud hole every time.”
Pauline Evanosky is a psychic channel, and no, I can’t tell what you are thinking. I am a retired office admin person, a bookkeeper at times, and a writer. Soon to be published in 2023 a series of books for young folks about Getting a Job, Keeping a Job, and Looking for Another Job. I’ve written almost 300 articles on Medium and would love it if you would subscribe to my stuff. I don’t like to get dressed anymore and have a fabulous disposition as long as they don’t take away my pills.
