The Surprising Results of 4 Months of Journaling: What I discovered Will Amaze You…

Before I began journaling, I was finding it hard to break free from habits that had been long instilled within myself for years.

One of many was spending too much time on Video games.

I am going to share with you what I have learned having implemented this simple and effective life-hack which improved my life drastically and can also improve yours.

I set a goal for the new year of 2024 at the end of November 2023 that I was going to change my bad habits which would free up more time for me to dedicate myself to working on skills or tasks that would have the ability to take me to the next level in my career.

I decided that the approach that I was going to take was journaling.

Throughout the 4 month period (starting in December 2023) up until now, this was what I wrote in my journal on a daily basis:

  • Thoughts: Immediately after I had risen in the morning, I would channel my thoughts by writing them down and at dusk I would do the same thing.

Result: It established clarity and by translating my thoughts into its physical counterpart made me more confident which lead to me attacking the day head on with a willingness to overcome the work I set out to complete that day.

  • To-do-list: I would list all of my non-negotiable tasks, some of which were difficult to complete consistently so what I would do to help me is to list down easier tasks as well.

Results: Completing the easier tasks; seeing them ticked off on paper made me more willing to complete the harder tasks. Every single time I did this, I was able to complete them without failure.

  • Goals: I would write down a set of long-term and short-term goals.

Results: by doing this I was able to see the vision I had further down the road. Delayed gratification activated every time I did this because I knew that by executing the tasks I had on my to-do-list, I was going to obtain that goal which kept me fired up to keep going.

Overall impact of journaling

Given the reason I started to journal was for the sole aim of improving my lifestyle by being ruthless, persistent and undeniable as a person, these are the things that I have realised from this process:

  • Achieving goals: I kept better track of my intentions therefore I was more likely to execute.
  • Tracking progress and growth: I was able to see where I was making progress therefore I began to iterate and adapt my schedule according to tasks I needed to focus on more thus stimulating growth.
  • Gaining self-confidence: Seeing my progress gave me a huge confidence boost by looking back and seeing how far I have come and knowing full well that I have the track record to prove it.
  • Improving writing and communication skills: By journaling at least twice daily (morning and evening) I was refining the art of writing and by writing down my thought processes, this resulted in an improvement in my communication skills.
  • Reducing stress: By taking action on the things that I had written down in my journal, combined with the other factors I have illustrated, it reduced my stress levels by removing negative thoughts from my mind and was then able to perform better.
  • Finding inspiration: By writing down what I was thinking initiated ideas to flourish as I let my mind run wild and left me overwhelmingly surprised with ideas I wouldn’t have thought of if I hadn’t journaled.
  • Strengthening memory: Journaling on a consistent basis reduced intrusive thoughts about negative events and improved my working memory because by writing down what I am thinking communicates to my brain that I want to remember that specific piece of information.

Conclusion

Whether you want to learn something new, it may be a skill or refining your craft in your particular field of work, I highly recommend committing to journaling daily even if for a few minutes as it calms your mind and refreshes your mental state for the next task you have at hand.

If it has worked for me, there is no reason as to why it wouldn’t work for you. Take this strong recommendation and just let the results talk for themselves.

If you have made it this far, you are going to make it far in the future because you have been patient, curious and attentive enough to stick around to the end. Greatness waits for you on the other side.

All the strength. All the power.
