Summary

Mick Mel's "Sunday Summary" provides a weekly recap of his insights on starting projects immediately, the benefits of consistent Anki usage, the uniqueness of personal and company attributes, the importance of content volume, clarity in service offerings, and the need to address personal shortcomings.

Abstract

In the latest "Sunday Summary," Mick Mel reflects on his weekly posts, emphasizing the importance of immediate action for meaningful endeavors, as exemplified by his own daily blogging habit initiated on a random Thursday. He celebrates his five-year Anki streak, highlighting the minimal effort and significant benefits of daily usage. Mel argues that giving away marketing strategies is inconsequential since the true value lies in the unique, intangible aspects of a company's operations. He encourages producing a high volume of content to increase the chances of creating exceptional work, despite the inevitability of generating lesser quality pieces. Clarity in branding and service offerings is stressed, with an example of a company that fails to communicate its services effectively. Lastly, he asserts that recognizing one's flaws is not an excuse for not making an effort to improve them.

Opinions

  • Immediate action is crucial for starting significant projects; procrastination should be avoided.
  • Consistent use of tools like Anki can lead to remarkable gains with minimal effort.
  • Companies should not worry about sharing their marketing strategies, as true differentiation comes from the myriad of small, unique actions they take.
  • High content output is encouraged to yield great work, accepting that not all content will be of high quality.
  • Clarity in communicating services is essential for effective branding.
  • Recognizing personal shortcomings is a starting point for self-improvement, not a justification for not changing.

The Sunday Summary: Start now, lots of Anki, lots of content, and there’s no way you can be copied

In an effort to help me keep up with everything I post each week, here is my latest “Sunday Summary” of my posts from the week.

Mon, June 5: The right time is right now Don’t start that big thing next Monday, or next month, or on January 1. If it’s worth doing, start doing it right now. I started this daily blogging streak on October 29, 2020 (a random Thursday), because I wanted to do it so I just started doing it.

Tue, June 6: Five years of Anki I’ve now gone five years of using Anki at least a little bit every single day. The cost is zero, the effort is minimal, and the gains are amazing.

Wed, June 7: We are impossible to imitate Our company gives away all of our marketing “secrets”, because there aren’t any, and you should do the same in your industry. The key is in the thousands of little things that you do that set you apart from everyone else.

Thu, June 8: Produce more, because so much of it should be trashed If you create a lot of content, much of it won’t be very good — and that’s perfect! Create more content, so while you pile up more bad stuff, you also will find yourself putting out some great stuff.

Fri, June 9: What service do you offer? Clarity always wins. In this example, I showcase a company that has very clean branding and a short tagline, but it offers no help in understanding what they actually do.

Sat, June 10: Awareness of your shortcomings doesn’t excuse them If you’re a jerk and “that’s just the way I am”, that’s problematic and worth trying to fix.

I hope you found some value in this. If you ever have questions, ideas, or disagreements regarding anything I write, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
