The Story of the World books and Brave Writer are Excellent Resources for Home Education
Home education veterans created these resources specifically for the home educating community. Respectively, they cover History and Language Arts.

Story of the World
Susan Weise Bauer is the author of The Story of the World set of four books. It is an all-inclusive world history. This is different from the world history I was taught in school. Starting in the Fertile Crescent, we travelled west across Europe, and finished up in North America. It was as if there were no other parts of the world.
We are enjoying Volume 1: Ancient Times. A lot of the stories feature the civilizations in Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece. It includes the Americas, India, and China too. I emailed Bauer asking about southern Africa and Australia. She replied to say they are included in Volume 2: The Middle Ages because she ran out of space in Volume 1.
The Story of the World collection is Volume 1: Ancient Times, Volume 2: The Middle Ages, Volume 3: Early Modern Times, and Volume 4: The Modern Age.
Bauer has broken history into four eras defined by the Classical Education style also called the Trivium.
Whether your children are educated from home or at a school, these books are a great addition to the family library.
Brave Writer
We use Brave Writer for Language Arts studies. Like Story of the World, it is a resource created by a homeschooling veteran for homeschoolers. Julie Bogart uses contemporary literature as the basis of learning the ins and outs of writing and the mechanics of the English language
Bogart recommends keeping the book More Nitty-Gritty Grammar nearby as a handy reference.
As home educators, we find resources created by home educators for are a better fit for us than resources created for the classroom. Home is not a classroom and I am not just a teacher. I am Mum first, and a resource for my daughter’s learning. Story of the World or Brave Writer, you won’t go wrong using either of them.
