The Storm

…ties that bind us forever

The storm rolled over the valley, jagged lightning reaching for the stalks of wheat and lighting up the landscape, illuminating the creeping shadows of 3 boys. Teenage friends since grade school, they crept across the field as the first drops of rain began to fall.

By the time they’d reached the rickety old hay barn, they were all soaked. Unable to hear each other over the near-constant thunder, they sat down on bales of hay to wait out the storm and tried to look at anything but each other.

Two miles away, the row-boat finished sinking in the pond. The last trace of evidence gone. Binding the three friends in a way nothing ever would again.
