The Stink
That only one person enjoyed
When the winds blow a certain way across the harbor vibrations change rapidly. Everyone can feel it even if they do not understand it. They can certainly smell it.
“The stink is here!” many would proclaim.
Children would stop playing and rush indoors. All the town’s critters would scurry away to their hiding places. The birds all flew away.
Many of the townspeople would inexplicably start crying. Tourists headed for the airport.
Only one person didn’t mind the stink. Sally Gunderhausen was born without a sense of smell. Now a young woman in her twenties, the only way Sally knew the stink had come was by seeing everyone else run — and by detecting the subtle shift in vibration. She was filled with joy when it happened because she would have the entire town to herself.
