The Still Egret Taking Flight
September Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shadows”
Mirroring mid-flight victory dreams at sunrise.
Less than one mile into our run, I asked my friend Bryn for a quick picture stop by the river. She readily agreed, for she knows that photography makes me happy.
Once we stopped by the concrete bench overlooking the river, I gasped at the sight of this elegant silhouette of the egret, or my father, as I wrote a poem about “my father is an egret,” which is the title of one of my poems published my first poetry book The PR - The Poetics of Running, A Book of Poetry in Motion.
“I open my eyes to greet the day I close my eyes to soak my dreams I open my mouth to taste the honey-dew I close my mouth to relish time’s stillness I open my eyes to the great egret flying I close my eyes and spread my wings wider and bolder than before.”
A few seconds later, the egret took flight. It created a perfect V-shape victorious flight pattern.
I was happy to have stopped at the right moment and witnessed this serene serendipity.
Good morning, Daddy! You always show me how to spread my wings victoriously, while smiling upon me from Heaven. I’m such a lucky girl!
