The Statue on Goat Island
February Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Statues”
Nikola Tesla statue dominates Niagara Falls.
When we first spotted the statue of Nikola Tesla at Niagara Falls, I wondered what he had to do with the area. I learned that he was responsible for helping develop the first hydroelectric power plant in the world using Niagara Falls. His alternating current system enabled the harnessing of hydroelectric power.
There is a statue of him on both sides of the falls, American and Canadian. This one is in America. I do not have a photo of the one in Canada.
The statue in the photo above is on Goat Island, upriver from the American Horseshoe Falls. You will see it once you walk through the entrance arch of the old Niagara Falls power plant that Tesla helped build in 1895.
