The State Between Asleep and Awake
The most interesting place
Each morning as I gradually rise to consciousness, there are a few hazy moments where I feel suspended between dreams and reality. Just before opening my eyes, I linger in a peaceful, almost transcendent headspace.
My mind floats through imaginative landscapes left over from sleep, yet I sense my body stirring to life beneath the sheets. Two worlds blur together.
It’s a bizarre feeling — being semi-cognizant of real sensory inputs like sunlight peeking through curtains, while still immersed in the illogic of dreams.
I exist in an ephemeral void between wakefulness and slumber during these precious seconds. The hustle of daily life hasn’t yet infringed on my tranquility.
As awareness slowly returns, there are flashes of cosmic insight. I recognize how fleeting this human experience is, yet feel profoundly grateful to be alive.
But just as quickly, the mystical veil lifts, and mundane obligations flood back in. The day demands my attention.

With concentration, I can sometimes extend the magical moments between sleep and wakefulness a little longer before reality anchors me firmly back.

As the new day calls, I will answer. But first, a few last seconds of magic as I drift between possibility and practicality. This is the essence of being human.
My advice? Next time you wake, pay attention to that gap between night and day. Let yourself get lost somewhere in the space between imagining and doing. It’s the stuff dreams are made of.
