Yeah, yeah. It Gets the Grease

So, here’s a bit of a glitch that happened on Medium with my subscribers. We get notified that people clap, they respond to our articles, and they follow us. Medium also tells us about folks who subscribe to our emails.

The holidays were on us, and as usual, sometimes I don’t pay attention. I did notice that five people signed up to receive my emails during November and December.

A couple of weeks ago, when I went to look at my subscriber list, none of those folks who had told me they’d subscribed were on the list.

I emailed Medium support and asked about it.

They were very helpful. They said something along the lines of “Oh, Gee. Those subscribers probably all had their email notifications turned off. But, just in case, we will look into it.”

That was the middle of December, and I’ve gotten four more subscribers since then. Different people who actually did turn up on my list.

Now, in my mind, I’m 68 years old and have worked my way around an office longer than a lot of people. I know when somebody is obfuscating the details. I know it. How coincidental is it that I am suddenly getting subscribers again, and this time they are on my list? Do you really believe that those other five subscribers had their switches off? I don’t buy it.

It was a glitch. Medium fixed it. I’m happy about it.

So, if you haven’t been paying attention, take a look at your subscriber list. The thing is, this is the only chance you get an email address from the folks who are interested in your work. Normally, I would not do anything with them, except they will come in very handy when I’ve got a book to publish. I can give those folks a heads-up that I either need beta readers or that the book is going on sale at Amazon.

I haven’t taken the road toward being proficient with social media and promoting myself, but I will use those leads. They are not cold callers. They are genuinely interested in your work.

Thanks for reading.
