An Interview with Katherine Myrestad

So, let’s get started. Katherine, could you tell us a little bit about the kind of writing you do?
My writing encompasses various themes but primarily centers around spirituality, personal growth, and the esoteric. I also enjoy expressing myself through poetry and sharing pieces that reflect my personal experiences and spiritual journey. Regardless of the form, my objective is to guide, inspire, and resonate with my readers. My writings aim to serve as a beacon of wisdom and guidance, encouraging readers to explore their spiritual paths and understand the complexities of life.
You call yourself a spiritual coach and social pedagogue, can you explain what both those things are for anyone who is unfamiliar?
As a Spiritual Coach, I guide individuals on their spiritual journey, utilizing a unique gift I inherited from my grandmother. I assist people in tapping into their inner wisdom, navigating their spiritual paths, and transcending life’s challenges. As a Social Pedagogue, I work with children, embracing their vibrant energy and applying educational principles to address social issues. I focus on individual growth, social inclusion, and holistic well-being. Both roles involve guiding and supporting people to realize their potential, albeit in different contexts.
Spirituality and the esoteric are strong themes in your writing, how were you first drawn to those subjects and how have they shaped your life?
My journey into spirituality began with my gift followed by a deep curiosity about the universe and our place in it. As I delved into spiritual teachings and the esoteric, I realized the profound impact they had on my perception of life, self, and the universe. They provided a framework for understanding life’s complexities and a path for personal growth. This journey became a cornerstone of my life and naturally seeped into my writing.
For those who feel drawn to write about similar topics what advice would you offer them about connecting to and growing their audience?
Authenticity and empathy are key. Write from your heart and share your personal experiences and insights. Reach out to your audience, engage with them, and build a community that resonates with your teachings. Medium is a great platform for reaching a diverse audience, but remember to be patient. Building an engaged audience takes time and effort.
As a writer who delves into tarot, astronomy, chakra healing, crystals, runes and other aspects of what some would consider ‘alternative’ do you ever experience any backlash to your writing?
Yes, it happens. Not everyone resonates with these topics, and that’s okay. The goal is not to convince everyone, but to provide guidance and insights for those who seek it. I respect differing perspectives and take constructive criticism as an opportunity for growth.
What would you say are your greatest writing inspirations?
My biggest inspiration comes from my spiritual journey and my experiences as a mother and a social pedagogue. Life’s challenges, victories, and moments of introspection fuel my writing. I’m also inspired by spiritual leaders, philosophers, and authors who have delved into the depths of human existence and spirituality.
How big of a role do you think writers play a part in bringing change to the world?
Writers have a significant role in shaping thoughts, initiating dialogues, and influencing change. They have the power to bring forth unseen perspectives, challenge norms, and inspire readers to think differently. Writing can be a catalyst for social, personal, and spiritual growth.
How do you define success as a writer, and what are your writing goals?
Success, for me, is when my writings resonate with readers, guiding them toward self-discovery and spiritual growth. It’s about making a positive impact, no matter how small. My goal is to continue to share my wisdom and experiences, reach more individuals, and help them navigate their spiritual journey.
In your writing you offer a lot of advice for new writers and how to find their own voice. What are your top tips for people new to writing?
Begin by writing for yourself. Explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Your unique voice lies in your authenticity. Be patient, it takes time to hone your craft and find your voice. Read widely, expose yourself to different writing styles, and learn from them. Most importantly, keep writing, keep learning, and enjoy the process.
Of all the stories you’ve had published so far, which one is your favourite and why?
It’s difficult to choose a favorite as each piece holds a special place in my heart. However, one that deeply resonates with me is a piece on spiritual growth through adversity. It mirrors my personal experiences and encapsulates my spiritual journey. It has also resonated strongly with my readers, making it all the more cherished.
