The Sound of Trumpets and Laughter
The remnants of a bygone era…
The random word of the day is LISTEN.
During the war, the hall would light up every Friday night. Big band music would play, and all the woman would rush down in their neatly pressed floral dresses and fresh curls.
And the men who were waiting on their orders would gather in groups on the outskirts of the dance floor drinking their ginger beer.
Some say that if you listen really close, behind the skating rink on Fifth and Grand, you can still hear the sounds of trumpets playing. And you can still hear the laughter of a bygone era where tomorrow wasn’t a promise you could keep.
This daily drabble prompt 14 Random Word Drabble Challenge is by Nancy Oglesby in Fiction Shorts.
