The Solutions To Our Problems Are With Us Like a Missed Specs Stuck at Our Head

Being present allows your mind to find solutions

This incident happened seven years or so ago.

It was one pleasant evening, my friend and I were waiting for the bus after work.

We were discussing many topics such as politics, humor from movies, about life, and events that happened on that day. We did not notice that the time flew by as we were exchanging words.

Meanwhile, I felt something missing.

“I feel that I miss something”, I said to my friend.

When the evening turns into night and the light turns into darkness I felt that my vision was turning blurred.

“Oh no! Where are my specs?” I asked.

It was then I realized that I was not wearing my specs.

I bought my spectacles by saving a small amount of penny every month. It was too costly for me to buy new specs, at that time, as I just started to earn — very little money.

So when I lost the specs I was scared more about the after effect.

How am I going to buy the specs? How much I have to save from my little monthly wage to buy it? Whether I can manage until that? were the questions poking my mind.

With all these questions in my mind, I started to search for the specs all the way from the office to the bus stop with help of my friend. But we were not able to find it.

My mind was in chaos, thinking more about the repercussion instead of being calm.

“You don’t have another choice other than buying new specs.” said my friend.

But still, I couldn’t make up my mind.

In the meantime, we both got the busses to our places and we departed saying bye.

I sat near the window hearing my favorite melodies. The chill breeze and the classical melodies made me come out of that situation.

That’s when, I felt something stuck in my head and to my surprise, it was my little specs.

In the same way, the solutions to our problem are always stuck in our head but it is difficult to find when we think about the consequences. Because when we think about the consequences we get scared, anxious, and nervous which eventually makes our minds Chaos.

A chaotic mind is like dust-filled water, you cannot see what is in there. You have to make the dust particles settle down to make the water clear. Likewise, unless your mind settles down from mess you cannot find a solution to your problem.

Ancient Chinese philosopher and writer, Lau Tzu well said that

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.

Only a peaceful mind can find the solutions to the problem because a peaceful mind stays present.

So, next time when you face any problem don’t be anxious or nervous instead be calm, composed, and try to divert your thoughts out of that situation.

There are many ways to divert your thoughts out of a problematic situation and to make your mind peaceful.

  1. Just take a walk and feel the breeze.
  2. Listen to classical melodies.
  3. Smell a flower and enjoy the fragrance — think how beautiful nature is.
  4. Play with the kids.
  5. Set up a zoom group call with your friends and share words about your memories with them.
  6. Help homeless people.
  7. Have a warm water shower.
  8. Call one of your friends whom you have not spoken to in the recent past.
  9. Say thank you to people who stayed with you when you struggled.
  10. Say sorry to someone who you think you’ve hurt.
