The Solution
Listen To Learn And Speak To Enlighten

Elder: “Future, how can we bring an end to this great divide that is our two generations?”
Youth: “Well, first. We need to establish mutual respect, which is virtually non-existent.”
Elder: “Why do you think this is, Future?”
Youth: “Because for the most part, the elders of today show us no reason to respect them.”
Elder: “I see. So, we as a whole need to step our game up?”
Youth: “Exactly.”
Elder: “So, say we step our game up. Would this begin to bring us closer?”
Youth: “It would be a great start.”
Elder: “I see. What if I told you that our primary problem is a lack of what you and I are doing right now?”
Youth: “What. You mean talking?”
Elder: “No. Not talking, Future. Having a conversation. There’s a huge difference in talking and having a conversation.”
Youth: “I’ve never really looked at the situation from that perspective. It makes sense though. Our voices being ignored is the primary reason why we’re not trying to hear nothing the elders are saying.”
Elder: “We as a whole need to listen to learn and speak to enlighten. Together, you and I can make it make sense to the masses.”
Youth: “Wise words, Elder. Now you just gave me a reason to respect you thoroughly.”
Elder: “Excellent. Now the feeling is mutual, for I have always respected the youth, who can only be as wise as the elders help them to be.”
This was an actual conversation I had with a young man a few years ago.
We must become the change we desire to see or begin to question our degree of sincerity.
