Growth is awesome. It’s also hard to nail down.

To grow you have to get uncomfortable. The best ways I’ve found to grow quickly all involve getting super uncomfortable. If you can overcome the negative connotation you’ll be unstoppable.

Be Willing to Fail

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. You have to be willing to do things poorly, at least in the beginning. If you are learning a new skill, you have to be willing to suck at it. If you’re learning how to invest you, have to be willing to lose money.

Failure is embarrassing.

Failure is uncomfortable.

Failure is also a growth accelerant

Think about your goals and areas you want to grow. How can you orchestrate a series of actions where you will potentially fail? The path of greatest resistance is also the path of highest reward.

Be Willing to Learn

Similar to being willing to fail, being willing to learn requires humility. To be willing to learn one must ignore all the success they have already obtained and ask for help on something new.

My first reaction is to power through when something is difficult or confusing, but it’s not always the best way. In fact, trying to gain using the brute force method is time consuming and does not allow you to take advantage of leverage.

I noticed that the times that I have made the most progress are when I got help in the area and listened, totally to everything they instructed me to do.

Be Willing to Get Pitched

Sales has a hugely negative connotation. Ideas of a sleazy used car sales guy who will sell you a lemon crowd our ability to think rationally. In reality, businesses exist to solve problems. As a consumer we aren’t always hyper aware of our problems, much less the solutions.

We have resigned to live with some problems and simply have a grown accustomed to a latent level of discomfort with others.

When you allow yourself to be pitched — especially by start ups — you raise your awareness of solutions to problems. This is powerful. This allows you to tap into someone else’s analysis of the marketplace, problems and viable solutions. Even if you choose not to engage their services, your awareness is raised.
