The Silent Soldier
Truths not spoken

The Silent Soldier Soldiers on, Through life’s cruel truths,
Through painful days; He waits for love and tenderness, For signs of joy, Within her eyes;
Though never seen, Nor felt, nor touched, So cold and distant Is her gaze,
Does it matter anyway?
He wonders daily of his strife.
The reality That is his life; “Strong and silent” He was told, Must be the way To live this life, To be a boy and later a man.
He did now know, That strength is shown Through stoic pain, And loss of love That never came;
The Silent Soldier Soldiered on, Soldiered on,
Another day.
