The Shocking Reason Your Body Is Drained
How To Get Your Energy Back

Are you exhausted? Exhaustion can be dangerous.
“An exhausted man easily falls prey to the adversary.” — J. Oswald Sanders
Do you know what is sapping your energy? What is forcing your eyelids to close no matter how hard you will them to stay open? The obvious answers may be work, school, kids, partners, or even extended family and friends. But are those things really zapping your energy, or could it be something less obvious?
Since the beginning of time, people have worked and taken care of their homes. As a result, there are many reasons for feeling tired, from dietary choices to content overload. But, surprisingly, not being physically active enough can be the root cause of your exhaustion as well.
Although it feels like we’re constantly on the go, we are living sedentary lives. Driving, working at a desk, or even using modern technology to do chores can feel draining, but it doesn’t make up for the lack of physical exercise needed to stay healthy.
Figures from the World Health Organization (WHO) show that we are not active enough. According to WHO:
- More than a quarter of the world’s adult population (1.4 billion adults) are insufficiently active.
- Worldwide, around 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men do not do enough physical activity to stay healthy.
- Levels of inactivity are twice as high in high-income countries compared to low-income countries.
- Globally, 28% of adults aged 18 and over were not active enough in 2016 (men 23% and women 32%). This means they do not meet the global recommendations of at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes vigorous-intensity physical activity per week.
- The drop in physical activity is partly due to inaction during leisure time and sedentary behavior on the job and at home. Likewise, an increase in the use of “passive.”
- Modes of transportation also contribute to insufficient physical activity.
It can be hard to believe that you have not accomplished the amount of physical activity needed to positively impact your health at the end of an exhausting day. You are not alone. It’s a struggle many of us face.
Still, it’s imperative to boost your physical and mental energy levels by becoming active. So look for ways to add physical activities to your day.
- Take long walks
- Go for a bike ride
- Jog
- Join a gym
- Join a recreational sports team
- Invest in home exercise equipment and/or videos
It can be difficult to start on your own. Seek an accountability partner to keep you motivated. The point is to get moving to reap the physical and mental benefits of physical activity.
