Summary

The web content is a poetic reflection on the mysteries and emotional resonance of the ocean, inspired by the GiaB writing prompt #2–4 about the beach.

Abstract

The article titled "Shapes of Water" is a lyrical exploration of the ocean's enigmatic nature, personifying it as a communicative entity that interacts with the observer. Through vivid imagery and metaphor, the author, Pablo Pereyra, describes the sea as a protective force that harbors marine life and holds secrets revealed by the tides. The ocean's voice is depicted as a powerful and soothing presence, akin to a lioness's roar, calling its children home. The piece also delves into the personal connection the author has with the sea, likening it to a distant lover whose voice brings solace and dissipates illusions. The article contemplates the deeper connections between the lunar cycles, the ocean's tides, and human emotions, suggesting that beneath the surface of our skin and hearts lie swirling shapes and imaginations. Shapes of Water

GiaB prompt 2–4: the beach

Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. Photo by Pablo Pereyra (2021)

What is there, protected by your surface? Is that a turtle or school of tuna gliding? Shades of you playing games with my mind Your voice speaks to me, clearly and loud

You expose some secrets, aided by tides You, the omnipresent, lunary controlled From something so far, tangible results Love me from afar: I’ll feel it here and now

Shapes of water reveals my only hope You are talking to me as I hear her roar Somehow soothing (as a lioness growl?) Calling her children to the den, their home

And I think of you, the lover I long for I think of you when there’s no one to hold I think of you to dissipate ill illusions Bringing your voice, sky colors home

What lies under the surface of our skin? Beneath organs and oceans in our hearts? What lunar tides swell carotid emotions? Swirling shapes, imaginations conjuring.

Pablo Pereyra 2021. Thank you for reading.

In response to Genius in a Bottle writing prompt 2–4: The Beach.

Thank you Victor Sarkin for this prompt.

Even when late, I will tag a few writers I’m eager to read more from: Sandra Salamander (I apologize if I’m pushing too hard!), Jenine Bsharah Baines for introducing me to this publication, The Naked Spiritualist since I’m curious, Val Pgun, even when in Spanish, her poetry mesmerizes me, my friend Gurpreet Dhariwal, Giedre P. who surprises me at every turn, Kira Dawn for the water heals and brings comfort, Sydney J. Shipp because we share in this being inlanders and most of the time, at least I, can only fantasize with the shape of water.
