The Seven Secrets to Living in Harmony — Scientific Evidence of Support

A Guide to Freeing You to Create Your Life by listening to the messages from your body

The Seven Secrets to Living in Harmony — cover page

It could be said during 2020 and 2021 our lives have been controlled by science. Certainly, our own senses have been in reactive mode to what has been presented as scientific evidence.

The term “scientific method” came into popular use in the 20th century, though there was little scientific consensus over its meaning. As a child of this era, I thought it necessary to include a scientific chapter in The Seven Secrets to Living in Harmony.

My rationale being to demonstrate there was scientific evidence suggesting why harmony was being created through the tools and techniques set out in the book.

What Is Science?

Science supporting what our senses already know, providing the logical explanations sought by our minds as to why change occurs.

However, as with much of human evolution, truth has not always been so clear cut.

The idea of a proven, fact based “scientific method” emerged in the 19th century to establish clear boundaries between science and the knowings of non-science.

Hence the growth in research and the plethora of publications outlining how a fact had been confirmed. Public perception of science though does not seem to have caught up with the questioning of the universality of the “scientific method” which began in the 1960s and 70s.

Wikipedia provides a good summary of the arguments concluding that the scientific method is a myth or, at best, an idealisation.”

The scientific method is a problem solving tool that has five basic steps, plus one feedback loop:

1. Make an observation.

2. Ask a question.

3. Form a hypothesis, or testable explanation.

4. Make a prediction based on the hypothesis.

5. Test the prediction.

6. Iterate: use the results to make new hypotheses or predictions.

The purpose is to find answers that are logical and supported by evidence.

Critics argue the biggest bias within science is motivated reasoning. The argument being scientists are more likely to accept evidence that supports their hypothesis and to question findings that do not.

Hence the need to question “who funded the scientific research?”

This was a question I became used to asking during my decade of writing health tips Newsletters for my wife´s wholefood store.

What I learnt when researching The Seven Secrets to Living in Harmony was I could probably find as many articles supporting my contention as opposing it!

Your Beliefs Control Your Biology

The science people will most act on is that which is the most visible rather than has “the best science”. This is one of those simple facts of life.

Of the over 30 resources and end notes cited in The Seven Secrets, the most pivotal was ”The Biology of Belief” by Dr. Bruce Lipton.

In it he indicated 95% of all illnesses and diseases are linked to physiological stress. And, the biggest cause of stress is trapped emotions, what he referred to as “destructive cellular memories,” that create our erroneous beliefs.

He also reported the remaining 5% as genetic, caused by stress somewhere in our family ancestry. Which means what we think of as genetic or a family predisposition to a particular disease or health problem originated with a stressful condition or event in our ancestry.

Dr. Bruce Lipton has made visible the science that beliefs control human biology rather than DNA and inheritance. Which was not the case when scientists began to publish scientific papers on our genes and coined the expression “junk DNA” for that they had yet to understand.

Hence the premise in The Seven Secrets of “Change the belief; change the body.”

It is this understanding that lies at the core of epigenetics. The study of how the effect of the external environment influences our genes and so can influence what we refer to as disease.

Every day, each of us experiences different emotions that give our lives meaning and colour. Without our emotions, in fact, we would not be who we are.

When we feel any intense emotions such as anger, frustration, hurt, fear, sadness, guilt, and so on, the energy from it can become trapped in our bodies.

Scientific Evidence Of Stress

The trunk (from the hips to the shoulders) and any one of more than 300 joints are particularly favourite places to be trapped.

Research shows that if repressed, trapped emotions that are never processed can be harmful, leading to an increased susceptibility to cancer and other diseases.

It was my personal experience of this that led me to write The Seven Secrets.

I was one of those human beings experiencing emotions and reacting to them. Only my conditioning was to suppress them, not to show I was feeling them.

Hence adding to the stress held in my body.

My research identified the more stress we allow into our lives, the greater the flow of adrenaline and the tighter our bodies become. For we are being chemically prepared for action.

These stresses are often stored or trapped for a long time in our muscles, joints, and organs. That means anything we do not resolve in the present can stay in our cells for later processing. Only when do we create space to consciously do so?

Animals allow themselves to tremble to release such stress — humans?

Research identified many scientific studies documenting a huge variety of circumstances with little or no correlation between tissue damage and conscious awareness of pain.

Physical harm is therefore neither necessary nor sufficient to cause pain; other studies have shown that job satisfaction is an excellent predictor of back pain.

Emotions are held by the unconscious mind, which stores all memories and directs the body’s autonomic mechanisms. It also controls perceptions and the senses, while being guided by survival through the least effort.

Messages From Your Body

Over 90% of our daily thoughts flow from the unconscious mind, what I refer to as our Lifeguard. For this is the prime function it uses to direct our lives.

Keeping us safe in our existing comfort zone. Hence why we resist change, even if we know there will be more harmony in our lives when we do.

In my case it was back pain and other messages from my body which brought about changes in my life.

The first step to bring harmony into your life is to listen to the signals from your body. Certainly not to repress them.

Then use the chapters in The Seven Secrets to help you identify the nature of the message as well as the underlying emotions generating the stress.

For, as Eckhart Tolle put it:

“An emotion is your body’s reaction to your mind.”

Once you have this awareness, you will be able to change your reaction to it.
