The Self-Help Secret the Gurus Are Hiding

We are being misled. Here’s what to do instead.

You want to go to Date with Destiny.

And Live, Love Matter.

And Personal Growth for Dummies.

Or whatever next high-ticket item that the gurus are teaching.

I get it.

I’m a personal development junkie and have been to my fair share of seminars, talks, and personal development weekend events.

They’re addictive and we continue to want to go to more and more of them.

The gurus were the ones who got us hooked on the seminars.

Some of the greats questioned why to listen to music in the car when you could have a personal growth university instead.

“Listen to something in the car that improves you and makes you smarter,” they preached.

“Turn your commute into your personal growth hour.”

Yet at one point, we will all run into a wall.

While I was sitting in the middle of one of these seminars, I had a realization.

“This is all brilliant information I’m learning,” I thought to myself, “but none of it is working.”

Everything I hear at the seminars and workshops is on-point but it’s not been changing my life. They seem to be selling us the information we seem to need and don’t know about.

We are listening, learning, and buying because they have key insights on human potential and behavior.

They are selling us the very information we need to be successful. We don’t know enough so we keep listening to them. We can never get enough of it because we watch all their talks, hear all the Podcasts and read all the books.

We keep thinking that we have not learned enough to maximize our personal power so we continue attending hoping to get the magic bullet for transformation.

After enough time, you too will hit a wall and realize that you’ve been misled.

After going to enough events, you will realize that it’s not the information you need.

You got caught in the trap of believing that seeking, learning, and acquiring knowledge was good.

It’s not.

The truth is you know everything you need to know.

You don’t need any more knowledge to grow.

It’s hard to tell who’s misleading you.

If the gurus are misleading you, you’re being duped.

If you’re misleading yourself, it’s on you.

See, we get into the idea that we don’t know enough and all the personal development greats always told us we needed more information.

You know what they didn’t tell us?

Apply that information!

They didn’t tell you to stop learning and start applying the knowledge you already had.

Being a personal development expert and knowing everything about personal development is not going to change your life.

Doing something with the information you have is key.

Your perceived lack of information will keep you going to seminars. You think you don’t know what to do when in reality, you’re not doing enough of what you need to do.

They want you to awaken the giant within but they don’t tell you that one step of action far outdoes hundreds of books and dozens of workshops.

Yes, really.

Just taking one bit of action will help you so much more on your personal growth journey than anything else.

Let me suggest you try one of these 3 actions today.

Doing any of these 3 actions will help explode your growth, more than 100 hours sitting in the front row of any motivational event.

3 ideas to elevate your personal development growth and see more results instantly.

  1. Take one small step of consistent action daily.

It just comes to this more than anything else.

You don’t have to do anything great.

You don’t have to create 10 habits or a keystone habit or anything else.

Just one small thing to move any part of your life forward.

The key is consistency.

2. Work on improving your thoughts and beliefs.

Doing this work will be more important than 101 personal development seminars.

Maybe it’s all you really need.

The gurus have been essentially preaching that you do this but it’s coming out all wrong. They’ve been saying you need more information to change your mindset.

You don’t.

It’s not information that you need.

It’s a way of thinking.

This requires work.

Your thoughts pop up all the time without any intention. They are usually the most disempowering and negative thoughts. It’s almost like your thoughts are trying to get you to fail.

The idea here is to change these thoughts. It’s to counter these thoughts. It’s to question these thoughts.

Again, you don’t need more information in your brain. You need to change the way your brain thinks.

You need to think possibilities when your mind is fixed on impossibility. You need to think potential when your mind thinks limitation.

Start practices that help you reverse your default mental pattern.

Write. Journal. Become more aware and mindful. Watch the words you’re saying to get a snapshot of your thought patterns.

3. Create a way of holding yourself accountable.

Try to find more ways to hold your way accountable.

Basically whatever you say you want to do or whatever you think about doing, commit to doing it.

Have a way to do it so it gets done. You don’t have to report it to anyone but it sure does help.

Other simple tactics to hold yourself accountable include 1) a check-list for things you’ve completed each day 2) a calendar cross-off of whatever you’ve wanted to do and 3) dropping a penny in a jar after completing the task.

This is all you need, friends:

Tiny action.

Shifts in thoughts and beliefs.

Accountability.

This is the essence of personal development.

Everything else is noise and distractions.

If you practiced these 3 practices for the next 30 days, you’re life will dramatically improve in every way.

Going to a high-energy motivational seminar will give you a temporary high and possibly burnt feet.

You have all the information you need.

Start on the step the gurus forgot to tell you about.

You don’t need massive action. Just a little bit of consistent action.

Are you a motivational seminar junkie? What am I missing here?
