The Self-Care Manifesto

Tools to Let Go of The World

I’ve been a life coach for many years and have repeatedly witnessed this mantra’s power. Self-care is often discussed in the context of mental health, but it’s important to remember that there are many ways to practice self-care beyond therapy or meditation. The key is taking time to look inward and listen carefully to what your body needs and learning how to put those needs first without sacrificing others’ happiness along the way. Striving for balance between caring for others and you are one way to ensure we stay energized in our jobs and relationships. So, let’s get into some specifics.

Get in touch with yourself

Self-care is a necessary part of life. It’s taking time to do things that make you feel good, like getting a massage or washing your hair. It’s also about having an overall sense of peace and well-being, which can be achieved by eating healthy foods or exercising regularly.

Getting in touch with yourself doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as taking time out of your day to meditate or walk outside and breathe in the fresh air. Try self-care activities alone at first so that you don’t feel pressured into doing something because other people are around. However, there are many ways for people who practice self-care together. If you’d instead not go solo on this journey, consider joining someone who wants similar things from their lives and maybe even become friends.

See the bigger picture

The first step to letting go of the world is to see the bigger picture.

This can be hard when we’re caught up in our daily routines, but taking a step back and looking at what matters is essential.

When you worry about things you can’t change or control, remember there will always be another problem waiting for your attention. Whatever issue is currently on your mind will eventually pass.

You may also find that other people sometimes think about things differently than you do. Instead of trying so hard to convince them otherwise, which only leads to frustration, try changing your perspective to align more closely with theirs.

Keep it simple

Take some time to relax.

Taking time for yourself, your family and friends, and the world around you are essential.

You don’t have to do anything special being present in the moment is enough.

Take a moment to breathe deeply and relax in the chair. Please pay attention to your breathing as it moves in and out of your body. Now allow each breath to bring calmness to you. Feel the air moving through your body as it travels from deep within to the tips of your fingers and toes. Allow yourself time to be present with this experience.

Take care of others first, then yourself last.

The fourth step is to remember that you are not the most crucial person in your life. You’re not the only one who needs help and support, and putting yourself first all of the time can be toxic for others. It is OK to ask for help.

For example, if someone asks me how I am doing, I don’t say, “I’m fine,” unless they ask me again or press me. Instead, I try my best to give an honest answer, even if it’s something like “I have no idea.” I know that other people are often just trying their best, too, and sometimes that means asking about how someone else is doing because they care about them and want them around longer than just until tomorrow morning when things get better again or worse.

Focus on what you want most in life, and work backward from there.

The next step is to focus on what you want most in life and work backward.

If your top priority is taking care of yourself, it’s time to start thinking about how to make that happen. That could mean taking a break from social media or working from home one day a week to spend more time with friends and family. If everyone else comes first for you, think about ways to give back by volunteering or helping others through service projects like this.

Whatever it is that matters most for YOU, focus on that first.

The way out is always through self-care and taking the time to stay on top of your needs and those of those around you.

Self-care is a lifelong commitment. It’s not selfish and is a way to stay healthy and happy. We all have different ways of caring for ourselves, but here are some suggestions that can help:

Take time off work or school by yourself every day, even for an hour. You deserve it.

Go on a walk-in nature with your dog, cat, pony, or whatever you like. Fresh air will do wonders for your mood plus, there are so many amazing things out there waiting for us humans to discover daily.

Call up an old friend who makes you laugh and talk about how much fun they had when they visited last year.

We are all struggling to find our way in this world. We want to be the best versions of ourselves and ensure we’re doing everything possible for our families, friends, and communities. But sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in a day to do everything we need, and that’s OK. Take time for yourself today by creating an environment where you can relax, reflect and recharge.
