The Secret to Success On Medium

Writing on Medium can be puzzling, especially since there is no direct document from Medium explaining how the algorithm works.

However, what I can offer you is the way I increased my reads from 288 to 3.5k by monitoring the data.

This means that in the last month, I was able to go from

  • 288 reads — 3.5k reads.
  • Gain more subscriptions to my newsletter.
  • Post the same amount of articles.

Engage right after you post your work.

There is a saying I have adapted from my time on Medium so far.

Regular readers keep you on the timeline

When you engage right after you post your work, it gives that immediate bump to the algorithm to circulate your work.

The more you engage with other people’s work, the more people will engage with yours.

During that time after posting your most recent work, engagement can give your article the initial traction it needs to be circulated to a wider audience.

Momentum

Momentum is important with statistics and to maintain relevancy for prolonged periods on the timeline.

The way this is accomplished is by spacing out the posts you make daily, depending on when you are available or how many articles you post.

Space it out between the periods(Pacific time) within similar intervals.

So in a perfect world, this is how it would go.

  • Post at 11 am | Engage with 33 people on the platform
  • Post at 2 pm | Engage with 33 people on the platform
  • Post at 5 pm | Engage with 33 people on the platform

Keep Showing up

The foundational element and most important part of this process is showing up.

There are no cutting corners or thinking that by some other means, you could make it on this platform.

Every other part of this plan is predicated on showing up.

A technique I use when I write is to always have a couple of articles in the draft that I don’t post unless I can’t write a specific day.

So yes!

There is no magic unless you keep showing up.
