The Second Best Day to Start
The best day to start on your dream, goal, or secret desire was 20 years ago. The second best day to start is today.
When I ran my first marathon, I ran to just finish. I wasn’t trying to complete it at a specific time. I ran at a speed where I could carry on a conversation with others. I would run with someone for a mile and ask about how they started running, how many marathons they had run, where they were from, what other goals were on their life list. Everyone was willing to share.
People would drop back or run on ahead, and I would start a conversation with someone new. I so enjoyed listening to, and discovering everyone’s story. And, every story was truly interesting. The stories and conversations made the miles go by so quickly. Great stuff.
The last 8 miles of my marathon, I ran with Bob from Fort Myers. Bob told me he was 80 years old that day and was running his 80th marathon! Wow!
He told me he started running when he was 50. He said when he started, he was very unfit. He didn’t know anything about running, training for a race, or running a marathon. He didn’t run his first marathon until he was 53. Here he was 27 years later still running.
He looked fitter and younger than most of the people running around him. He had a smile on his face and humor in his voice. He was delighted with his life. Running gave him fitness, good health, clarity of thought, time alone, peace of mind. It was his passion.
His wife and 2 best friends were waiting for him at the finish line and they were going to celebrate his 80th birthday, and his accomplishment of 80 marathons, over brunch and a huge stack of pancakes! Go Bob!
It is never too late to start.
Bob was a great example that it is never too late to start on your dream, your goal, your desire, your destiny. It is never too late to start. You are never too old.
There is no excuse in not knowing how.
We all start at the beginning, don’t we? We don’t know-how. We aren’t very good. We just have to start where we are. Every great athlete, every great musician, everyone who has ever excelled at anything, started at the beginning … not knowing how and not doing it well.
The very best day to start on that dream or goal or secret desire you have is …. 5, 10 or 20 years ago.
Isn’t it? We all wish we had started sooner. We all wish we had started exercising, training for a marathon, taking care of our health and wellbeing, writing our book, starting our small business, putting money in the bank, traveling, making friends, pursuing personal growth, learning, taking up our hobby or our passion … 5, 10 or 20 years ago.
The second best day to start on your dream or your goal or your desire is …. TODAY.
Yes, today. You have attracted me to your life today to share this message with you.
Start today.
It is not too late. Start. Just start.
Make a list today.
What would you LOVE to do before you die? What will you regret not having done before you die? What do you secretly wish to manifest in your life in the next 1 year, 5 years?
Choose one.
Start. Do some research on the internet, join a club or group or class, buy a book or magazine about your dream, your secret desire. Talk to someone else who has done it. Get a coach. Share your thoughts with a friend.
Decide to do it.
The decision to do it is the hardest part. Decide. Just decide to do it. Start. Begin. Take a deep breath. Smile. Say Hello to your dream. The only one who can make it happen is YOU.
The second best day to start is today.
