The Search For Love
Children Series #3 Loss And Love
Today, this story is about Francis and the loss of her dog named Angie. Francis and Angie have been best friends from the first day her parents took her to the shelter and brought her home.
Francis's parents are very sad for their little girl. Francis asked her parents when the hurt would go away? The parents decided to tell Francis a story that might make her feel better.
The story goes like this. There was a crane, like the one you saw at the zoo a long time ago. This crane was very sad like you are today. The crane, like you, has lost his companion of many years.
One day the male crane's companion did not awaken from her sleep. Francis, just like your Angie didn't awaken this day. The crane stayed by her side, waiting for the movement that would never come that day.
Francis then asked what did he do next? Being true to his nature, the crane took time to cry for his lost companion. Francis, you see cranes being the birds they are. He opened his wings and climbed high upon the air currents in search of love after his loss.
The crane now began the long journey back to his breeding grounds, searching for a new companion. The journey took the crane a long way from where he started that day. He flew over many lakes landing in one to rest.
The lake where he decided to rest was home to many flamingos resting in the sun with their long legs touching the water. The flamingos asked him why he was so sad? The crane then begins to tell them the story of his lost companion. The flamingos listened and comforted him with a smile.
He now returns to the sky to continue his journey in the search for love. The crane has flown many miles. His wings are tired. He continues getting nearer to his breeding grounds, where he was born.
The night sky is now beginning to appear, and the sounds of life from other cranes he can hear in the distance. The sounds give him the strength to complete the journey back home this day. Now the pattern of life will begin for the crane today with a new companion.
Francis, you see, we are not cranes; however, all creatures have the loss of loved ones in their lives, just like humans. Angie is your first loss, your best friend.
Francis, you have been given the gift of life along with the sadness of loss. Your Angie gave her life giving birth to this litter of puppies to remember her by and give your love to them.
So, my dear Francis, it's okay to be sad and remember how much you loved Angie. We think Angie would want you to be happy again someday with your beautiful smile lighting up our world for all to see.
