The Scorpion and the Shot Glass
a free verse poem on self dare or stupidity

I set myself a challenge, I had seen it done in a movie. James bond, Where he has the scorpion On his hand while taking a drink, Enhanced with real-time C.I.G.
Only, I am going to do this for real.
As the scorpion is placed on my hand Shot and tail at the ready, Down goes the everlasting shot. Staring, ready, nervous.
Relieved the scorpion is confused As it finds itself in a Strange environment And not finding my nostril To pinch with a defensive pincer While delivering a painful sting With the whip of its tail, The venomous bulb finding The sensitive skin on my bulbous nose To deliver the unwelcome venom I so dearly try to avoid.
I flick the confused scorpion quickly Onto the welcoming bar Before it comes to its defensive senses And trap it with the foolish glass I took my foolish drink.
I turn to the faces of my shocked friends Looking forward to the recorded playback. No!? Did you take pictures? Oh, feckin’ unbelievable! No recording, no proof!
Tis a good job I am not a Tall tale kind of a fella, Else no one would believe, The tale of the scorpion, And the shot glass.
