The RFK Jr., Aaron Rodgers Saga Gets Even More Interesting.
Just when you think Aaron Rodgers couldn’t be worse…
I love sports and politics too much not to comment on the instances where their interconnectedness comes to the forefront, and whew…it certainly has in recent days when it comes to the world of the National Football League, and Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in particular.
It was hard to miss those reports circulating on social media about how Robert Kennedy Jr. had narrowed down a list of Vice Presidential candidates that included Aaron Rodgers. It was hard to ignore the fact that the man who insisted that eliminating distractions was what it would take for his team to take a step forward has refused to comment on this story and instead has chosen to allow it to fester.
And then, you know, we find out he’s a Sandy Hook truther.
Pamela Brown and Jake Tapper with CNN report:
“…Brown was covering the Kentucky Derby for CNN in 2013 when she was introduced to Rodgers, then with the Green Bay Packers, at a post-Derby party. Hearing that she was a journalist with CNN, Rodgers immediately began attacking the news media for covering up important stories. Rodgers brought up the tragic killing of 20 children and 6 adults by a gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School, claiming it was actually a government inside job and the media was intentionally ignoring it.
When Brown questioned him on the evidence to show this very real shooting was staged, Rodgers began sharing various theories that have been disproven numerous times. Such conspiracy theories were also later at the center of lawsuits brought by victims’ families when they sued conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on the matter.
Jones baselessly repeating lies that the 2012 mass shooting was staged, and that the families and first responders were “crisis actors,” spawned multiple lawsuits and a trial was held in 2022 over lawsuits that were filed in Connecticut…”
Here’s the thing…
I’m all for athletes speaking their minds, and weighing in on the issues that matter to them.
But this…this is absolutely appalling. This is irredeemable.
At least for me personally, there are certain issues that are above politics. Issues that are bigger than where you stand on the political spectrum and point to who you are at your core.
Being a Sandy Hook truther…yeah, that would be one of them.
I just can’t even begin to imagine being one of those parents. I cannot imagine having my six year old slaughtered in the place where they were supposed to be safest. I can’t imagine being ushered into a room with a group of other parents, all being told our children didn’t make it, with the wails of grief so loud they could be heard from the street. I can’t imagine then being told, after one of the most painful, indescribable experiences a human being could ever go through, that my dead baby is a crisis actor and so am I. I can’t imagine getting threats as a result.
And then, all these years later, news breaks that one of the faces of the National Football League buys into all the conspiracy theories that have caused you so much pain.
Those wounds are never, ever allowed to heal are they?
The piece of me that absolutely adores the Buffalo Bills loves all the distractions for the New York Jets. But on a human level, I don’t think I could despise Aaron Rodgers more.
