The Reason I Don’t Want Readers to Subscribe to My Publication
Do you regularly publish to your own publication and forget about publishing on your profile?

Are you a frequent reader or follower of the various stories published on the new DAILY JUSTISS publication? If you are, I have a special request to make to you, and I’ll explain why I’m making it in a moment.
Before I do, I have something writing-related that I’d like to get off my mind first (if not my chest).
Don’t be afraid of being viewed as a know it all.
I’m a fairly new Medium writer who does not profess to know everything about writing on Medium.
I make this statement, knowing that you might think otherwise, based on the 350 stories I currently have published, and many of them focused on Medium.
Clearly, my writing on Medium is what gets me up in the morning. If I have to call it anything, I say it’s my drug of choice. I couldn’t stop writing here if I wanted to, and I really don’t.
My stories consist of everything from online writing, to advice about life lessons, relationships, and other topics and situations.
But one subject that I spend the most time writing about and musing over is the subject of writing. provide tons of self publishing and writing tips. So like I mentioned; because of all the stories I’ve shared about writing and publishing on Medium, I may seen to come off as a “know it all”.
In spite of what it looks like, that’s not my intent at all, and hopefully, the people who read and appreciate my stories can understand that.
All the rest can go sit on a rusty nail and rotate.
I say that because all too often, writers tend to try and stifle who they are, in fear of appearing a certain way to onlookers. I don’t want to get stuck doing that, so the best way not to, is to make it known that while I care what people think about things, I have the final say over my own life, and that includes my writing.
I mention this point, because I want it to be known that my intention is to write something about Medium at least once, every single day.
No, I’m not doing it to appear as the Medium guru who can answer all questions having to do with writing and submitting stories. I don’t have all the answers, but I’m more than happy to write and post stories that I do have the answers to.
I don’t even mind publishing stories that contain questions that I’d like answers to myself. Since “Medium” is one of the most popular subjects you can write about on Medium, then that’s at least one of the things I’ll be writing about, every day.
And that brings me to the primary point of this story. Allow me to share why I don’t want my readers to subscribe to my Daily Justiss publication.
A problem with subscribers and notifications
Those who only subscribe to your publication only get notified when a story is published in the publication. The way I understand it is: Any of those subscribers who don’t follow YOU — as in follow your profile, and not just your publication — they don’t get notified when you publish a story that is NOT published to your publication.
If you happen to have the story published in another writer’s publication, UNLESS a reader follows that particular publication, they won’t get a notification about your story.
I actually don’t have a lot of followers who have chosen to subscribe, via my profile, or my publication. But my bet is that more followers will ultimately end up subscribing to the profile page, than the publication.
When and if that happens, I want them to be notified first thing, whenever I publish a story. But if my stories are published directly to Daily Justiss, no notification will be given, except to those publication followers.
Doubling story exposure is tricky but possible
Trying to get exposure for our stories is a constant battle. Doubling your story exposure is tricky, but it’s possible if you take a creative and proactive approach.
For instance, I’m committed to publishing at least one story a day in my Daily Justiss publication. But I don’t want to lose my followers who follow me, but don’t necessarily follow the publication. If they don’t get notified about the story I publish in Daily Justiss, they won’t know I published anything that day.
So what I’ve started doing is to publish to my profile first, then wait about an hour or so, and transfer the story to my publication.
If I’ve got this figured out correctly, the story will post to my profile page (like usual) and my followers will get an email alert (those who subscribe to ME).
Then, since the story has already been published, I’ve missed my opportunity to alert those who subscribe to the publication, but I publish it there anyway. But at least this way, the story still ends up being accessible to both groups.
So why am I asking readers not to subscribe to Daily Justiss?
If readers subscribe to the publication, they’ll be expecting regular notifications, which based on my above mentioned procedure, those notifications will never come.
So instead of subscribing and wondering where my next story is, I invite you all to: STOP BY AND VISIT EVERY DAY.
My publication is called “Daily” Justiss, because I publish something to it on a daily basis. If readers keep this in mind, there’s no need to subscribe when you simply pop over and pay a daily visit. I promise you won’t be sorry you did.
Final Thoughts
If you have a Medium publication that you regularly devote time to, you may be experiencing the same dilemma.
Remember:
Figure out a way to benefit from those followers of YOU the person, as well as those who only follow you the PUBLICATION.
DEAR READER: I always enjoy talking to writers on writing. Enjoy the advice when you find it useful. I write to help writers on Medium get more exposure. Whether you prefer self publishing all your stories, or you submit them to Medium publications, you can still benefit from the information. Use any related tips and you’ll begin to notice a great deal of self improvement, when it comes to your writing productivity.
