The Rainbow Behind The Grey

A poem about the souls I’ve met over the years

One day I saw a sight so rare, Black hair, brown eyes, a maiden fair, A work of art but with one glare, Darkened rings her eyes did bare.

I took my seat and began to listen, Soon her eyes began to glisten, “Please tell me the way out of this prison, An escape from this tired old tradition”.

Young, naive, what was I to say? But hold on, don't cry, it will be ok, I saw a rainbow behind the grey, A simple smile that made my day.

I dedicate this poem to all the smart, beautiful, kind, and amazing souls who have shared their stories with me over the years.
