The Questions Twins Hate, Yet Asked A Hundred Times!
Nope, do you share the same birthday is not one of them!
Being twins is fun, we love the extra attention we get but, facing the same set of questions every time we meet someone new… hmm not so much. Understandably, people are usually curious, but no offence, some questions are dumb and generally disliked by twins.
Which one are you?
The most asked one out of the lot. Seriously it’s fun for once, but not when asked often. This is never a real question, its supposedly a joke, but honestly, we don’t get it. If you do not know who is who, then you probably are talking to the wrong one.
Who’s older?
It’s just a matter of a few minutes, how does it matter? There can be few minutes differences in pulling the babies out, well, depending on how fast the doctor is. But it is not significant information, twins are born TOGETHER. If we are of the same age, how can there be a concept of elder or younger? And we never consider one of us to be elder or younger.
How to tell you apart?
Hmm, this one can be interesting depending on the differences you have from your twin. I do not mind this question, its quite fun to answer. For most, there can be weight and height differences. And if not we will go on telling you how different our nose, or eyes look, and you will be like noh you got to be kidding me…. you look the same!
Well, we have spent too much time with each other, we know the difference and when we say it, you got to believe us( even if you don’t see it ). And no, we do not see ourselves when we look at each other.
Do you fall sick at the same time?
Nope, that’s only possible because we are most probable to catch each other’s germs. So we usually catch the flu together, just like you and your flatmate. It has got nothing in particular with being twins. I mean seriously, we are not the same body, we are two different beings, there’s no magical portal through which we can transmit the germs to each other!
Do you feel each other’s pain?
Is there a sixth sense that warns you when one is in danger? Are you telepathic? No, no and no.
Wait, there are dumber versions of this… if I hit her will you feel the pain? No, the question hurts!
Well, it is not scientifically possible, and we are only human after all…
Do you fall in love with the same person?
NO. We often share a lot of things in common, but we feel differently about a lot of other things too. A person can change depending on their surroundings, friends, the books they read, the shows they watch and whatnot. We might find the same people hot but we do not usually fall for the same person. We often have different expectations from relationships. So, I guess it happens only in movies.
Which one of you is the evil twin?
One of us doesn’t have to be evil, just because the movies say so…you know, maybe both are! Well, if movies were for real I would want superheroes to be real and not my evil twin.
There can be cases where one of the twins did something terrible, but so does a random drug addict without a twin. So, it’s clearly a myth.
Who’s smarter? dumber? taller? shorter???
Well, it’s exactly like asking you and your brother /sister these questions. The answers are going to be same. Maybe one of us is smarter or taller or maybe not. This question is an unwanted comparison.
Let’s say you have a younger brother who is dumb and taller and I ask you these, wouldn’t one of you be offended once you are done answering? Well, you are smart, but he’s taller! Doesn’t sound so good, does it? Comparisons are not good, each one of us is unique and talented in our own ways.
Do you ever switch places?
Most of us don’t. We do not usually feel the need to, the reason being we trust you and think you would know it if we did. Nobody likes failed pranks.
Well, for fun, I did try it once. And it turned out well. One day, I went to my sister’s office and sat in her place. A lot of her friends and colleagues ( whom I knew through pictures) were talking to me, I carried on just like she would. To my surprise, nobody could tell the difference (come on, you blind people, I look different!).
Some of her close friends could tell there was a difference, but didn’t know what! They went like .. you look different today, is it your hair? or dress? did you lose weight? I kept saying I am not sure what you are talking about, and then came a guy who claimed that I was not her, there was something wrong and his friend was not this and walked away( thank God!).
After some time my sister came in, and that was quite a moment, most of them were like ooh there’s two of you! Though, she was quite disappointed that most could not figure it. But it was fun switching places.
Finally …. what is it like to be twins?
Wonderful! Never had to imagine how people are all by themselves! We have had a constant companion right from birth! Did nobody want to be friends with you? go out with you? We never had to face those, we didn’t even have to enter a classroom alone.
Having a twin makes life a lot easier, it’s like playing a game in multiplayer mode whereas the rest get to play it in single-player mode!
