Life is Dependent on the Quality of Your Relationships

There’s No Such Thing as a Self Made Man

They say that you are the sum of the five people you spend the most time with. There is much truth to that statement.

Your friends, co-workers, peers — and family directly impact who you will become and what it is that you’re currently doing.

The quality of your life comes down to several important factors. Your physical well-being, for instance, has a large impact on your perceived quality of life. Your ability to access information is another. Your current mental state and your perceived level of happiness could be added to the list.

Above all — your life's quality is largely influenced by the people who are actively engaged in your life at this very moment.

My good friend and business partner had a very engaging conversation about something similar last night over a few glasses of cabernet.

We were in the midst of expressing to each other that we were grateful to have the type of connection we have because those types of meaningful connections with people make life worth living.

It further solidified the idea that relationships are the most important thing in your life. It’s not your house, and it’s not your job or your social status. It’s the people you have. It’s the meaningful connections with a loved one.

It’s the memories with these very people that you will be reminiscing while on your death bed.

The people you chose to spend your time with.

If you’re discontent with your current situation, chances are you may need to elevate to a higher plane of consciousness by engaging with people that will help raise that vibration for you.

Little in This Life Can Be Done Alone-Arguably Nothing

Even the greatest of greats; Jesus, Gandhi, Mandela, MLK, Einstein, and Abraham Lincoln each had people along the way that ultimately enabled them to become the person that they were.

There is no such thing as a self-made man.

Life becomes more profound and hopeful — when you begin to think of it this way.

The people of inspiration that we know today, who overcame adverse life circumstances or started a multi-million dollar company “from nothing” — had people at their disposal that helped them get there.

They either had access to another person or possessed greater knowledge than they currently did or access to resources that enabled them.

Resources that were created or designed by someone other than themself.

Even a solo entrepreneur who makes a fine living from his living room's comfort is a slave to the resources available to him on the internet.

Resources that were created and designed, you guessed it — by another person.

Give credit where credit is due. Nobody has done anything completely by themselves. The self-learner chose not to attend college but still found success; read multiple books by multiple people who gave them the knowledge or capabilities to start whatever venture or business they ultimately did.

There are two points I’m driving home here:

  1. The people you surround yourself with have a massive influence on your life.
  2. We are all connected beings who essentially have been building on top of the knowledge of those who came before us.

I’m not saying that innovation within science and technology don’t exist; they obviously do. But those innovations would not have been possible without the previous people that lived and the previous innovations within those same fields of knowledge taking place.

I aim to help you gather a greater appreciation for the people around you and those who have come before because nothing you’re doing would have been possible without them.

If you’d like to dumb it down in the most simple of ways, we were all born from a set of parents, and not a single one of us chose to be born (an even more interesting thought), so as you can imagine, we all have our parents to thank for whatever it is we all accomplish in life.

After you have gone down the rabbit hole of becoming appreciative for all of the people who came before you, I would hope and pray that you ultimately thank God for creating the first human beings.

You should also be thankful for the people He has decided to place in your life, even if they have harmed or hurt you.

Every person in your life at the moment or that has come into your life previously has a reason for doing so.

We do have some choice in which people we allow to influence our life.

If you want to increase the quality of your life, increase the quality of your relationships.

God will take care of the rest and ultimately use those people to shape you into the person you were meant to become.

You Need to Be Spending Time With People That Expand You

People that challenge you. People that raise your vibration. People that complement and strengthen your current abilities.

People that engage in petty, worldly negativity. People that diminish the quality of your mind and your ideas. People that talk about other people in a way that sheds a negative light on that person.

Those are not the type of people you want to surround yourself with.

None of those qualities in other people are conducive to becoming the person you were meant to become.

Those people will be who they are regardless, but they can do it without you.

Don’t allow them to tarnish your mind.

You need to find a new crowd—a new group of people.

Not even a whole group. Just one person. That one person will blossom into two, three, or four other people who inspire, motivate, and lift your spirit.

Before you know it, you will be a new sum of a different group of people.

Completely different from your old crowd.

Don’t Be Afraid. Do Not Be Fearful

Changing who you spend your precious time with is normal, healthy — and expected.

This is how we were intended to live.

To evolve, grow, change, adapt, and ultimately prosper and live a life of purposeful abundance.

A lot of people fear change, especially change in the people they are surrounded by. Let me assure you that your time is of great value, and you shouldn’t dare give it to those who aren’t proactively assisting you in reaching your goals or dreams.

There is no time for that.

The Less Clear You Are on Your Goals, the More Difficult This Will Be to Navigate

That’s why you need to become clear on your goals, where you’d like to go in life, and who you’d like to become.

Once you have clarified that vision, the easier it will be to look around at the current people in your life and decide if they enable you to get there.

Once you identify and realize that a person, or group of people, aren’t sharpening you into the person you’d like to become — the easier it will be for you to let them go.

Who Are You Becoming Based on the People You Spend Time With?

If you could imagine the futures of those with who you spend the most time, what does their future look like?

Based on that, what kind of changes do you now need to make to become the person you’d like to become?

Perhaps you are unsure of who you’d like to become, in which case you may want to take some time to connect with that vision.

The sooner you do that — the simpler it will be to identify the people in your life that don’t measure up with that vision.

Thanks for reading.

If this is your time, my name is Matthew Davis, and I am on a mission to motivate and inspire as many people as possible.

To do what can only be determined by you at this point.

But also because I’m still clarifying that vision for myself.

I hope to see you soon.

If you’d like to see me on camera — check out my YouTube channel, where I am attempting to fulfill this mission through video for the first time.

I love you all — God bless.
