The Proust Questionnaire Answered by The Maverick Files

If you read this, you may get to know me more than most do…

  1. What is your idea of perfect happiness? The roller-coaster of emotions my mind goes through in the space of a few seconds, when my wife and I get home after a long day of work, and our 2-yr old son is standing at the door as soon we ring the doorbell — every day without fail — and the look of joy on his face on seeing us as he mutters the cutest words ever — “Mumma Daddy
  2. What is your greatest fear? I don’t have one — yet. Probably the thought of having a fear so great that cripples me enough that I can’t move forward.
  3. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? The laziness that holds me back from exploring my full potential.
  4. Which living person do you most admire? Rafael Nadal — what a man’s sheer will can achieve can’t be showcased any better.
  5. What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Patience — you’d be surprised how often impatience can be your friend.
  6. On what occasion do you lie? When the lie causes less pain than the truth would, without ever coming back to haunt in the long run.
  7. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Perfect. Sure thing.
  8. What or who is the greatest love of your life? My wife — without a doubt.
  9. When and where were you happiest? Life’s as good as it gets at this very moment — a loving wife, the cutest son, the best family, a good life, and not much more that I could ask for.
  10. Which talent would you most like to have? The ability to influence people’s minds and make them see things through my lens — almost at will
  11. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Nothing, why would I ever want to change perfection? :)
  12. What do you consider your greatest achievement? Playing my part in giving birth to the cutest and smartest kid in the whole wide world and raising him the way we have so far.
  13. Where would you most like to live? For the long-term, India — home is where the heart is.
  14. What do you most value in your friends? The true depth of friendship that doesn’t change no matter the time or distance that may separate us.
  15. Which historical figure do you most identify with? None — but there is a fictional character that I do — Howard Roark from The Fountainhead.
  16. Who are your heroes in real life? My parents — it can’t be easy to live your life in such a way that to their kids it always looks so smooth — like a true swan. Even if they ever had ups and downs in their lives which all of us do, I’ve only always seen all that’s great!
  17. What is your greatest regret? None — regret isn’t something you should live with. It’s a heavy burden to carry.
  18. What is your motto? Live your life such that you can die at peace with yourself.

Tree Langdon, CPA, CGA is such a genius in so many ways and this is another one of her great ideas. Thank you for prompting me to do this — I loved thinking about some of these questions like I hadn’t ever before.
