The Promptly Written Monthly Theme for November 2023

Welcome to your favourite source of inspiration!

It’s that time again! Another month in this super fast year has flown by and winter is just around the corner. We have loved the responses you have been submitting from our own prompts as well as those you have found in and around the Medium-verse. Keep them coming!

Casey Lawrence and Bella Smith ⭐ will be continuing to offer you weekly prompt inspiration but for November’s prompt theme questions, sparks and quotes, read on…

The theme for November is ‘time’

Time is the one thing in life we can never get more of. We have no idea (usually) how much we have but each and every one of us knows that the amount is finite. We can respond to that with despair and sadness, or worry and an urge to fill it, or perhaps with a sense of inspired gratitude as we appreciate each moment for the beautiful thing it is.

How do you feel about time? Is it precious or wasted?

Do you feel resentful of the time you have to spend doing things for ‘duty’ or work?

Do you get frustrated with others consistently wasting your time, being late or cancelling plans on you last minute?

Do you avoid time alone not really knowing what to do with it or are those the moments you seek out the most?

As creativities and adults in the modern world, it can often feel like we are in a battle in which there is never enough time to do the things we want or need to do just to get by. But have you noticed the moments when time speeds up or slows down completely? What do those moments have in common for you?

How To Use Monthly Themes

1. Write specific poems, fiction, essays, or articles related to the theme — try using the Writing Sparks.

2. Choose a Weekly prompt or select a Writing Spark, and center your piece around the theme.

3. Remember to tag your work appropriately (Poetry, Fiction, Essay, or Articles) and use ‘Monthly Theme’ if your work is centered around the theme.

Writing Sparks

  1. What moment would you like to go back to and have frozen in time?

2. How do you feel about ageing and the passing of time for yourself or your loved ones?

3. How do you use the time you have? What does a day in your life look like? What would you like it to look like?

4. What regrets or second chances do you wish you could go back in time and change?

Bonus Prompt — Consider the following quotes:

“You will never ‘find’ time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.” Charles Buxton

“Time is how you spend your love.” Zadie Smith

“Time is like a river. You cannot touch the same water twice, because the flow that has passed will never pass again. ” Anonymous

Have a creative month, I can’t wait to see your responses!

Important Reminder

Write what comes to mind, don’t try to shape it or edit, let that first draft flow out of you like a stream of consciousness in direct response to wherever inspiration took you.

Only after that and perhaps a little time, should you reread and polish. We want to see your passion and excitement for your stories, and it’s what you write best.

Best Wishes & Have a great November!
