The Present

The one and only that is granted: the Now

A few years ago I read a mind-blowing/awakening type of book called “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle and recently came across a book called “Nå” by Michael de Vibe & Ragnar Carem about presence. And it deeply reminded me of the essentials that lie in the present moment.

This exact unique moment when I am typing these lines and remembering to notice my breath and heart beating in my chest pumping blood from cells and making all circulate inside my body. Invisible yet so essential and vital to our being.

Due to a hectic routine, new priorities, meditation/reading routines somehow ended up on a lower level. Started again this week incorporating meditation and reading... And It does wonder as usual. It brought me to the appreciation of the moment. As it is, without judging or labelling it.

Appreciating the gift of life every single morning I open my eyes filled with gratitude that I am blessed with a new day. No matter the circumstances, no matter the pandemic, no matter this or that. All that matter is that I am still alive, now. As the Ivorian (African) saying goes:

“as long as you are alive, there is hope” — “tant qu’il y a la vie, y’a espoir”: Ivorian Proverb.

As long as you are still breathing, there are enormous possibilities.

Of course with this mindset, I also do notice annoyances and disturbances in my everyday life. Some still affect me at different levels. In parallel, I do my best to let it “pass by”, #attitudematters.

With some practices: the more you meditate or bring the awareness in the moment, the least you will be impacted by external annoyances. Try and see by yourself :)

Here bellow I share the translated version of the poem that reminded me of the power of being fully present in the moment. Appreciating the moment for what it is: here and now (still, work in progress..)

Presence

By being present with yourself,

by seeing yourself in your everyday life with awake interest

to understand rather than judging,

in full acceptance of whatever may come to the surface

and enrich your life

and your awareness

with its captivating energies.

This is the important work of the presence;

it removes obstacles and releases energy

through understanding the nature of the mind and life.

Intelligence is the door to freedom

and awaken attention (full presence) is the mother of intelligence

Original version in Norwegian for my Norwegian readers :)

Tilstedeværelse

Ved å være til stede med deg selv,

ved å se deg selv i ditt daglige liv med våken interesse

for å forstå snarere enn å dømme,

i full aksept av det som måtte komme til overflaten

og berike ditt liv

og din bevissthet

med sine fengslende energier.

Dette er nærværets viktig arbeid;

det fjerner hindringer og frigjør energi

gjennom å forstå sinnets og livets natur.

Intelligens er døren til frihet

og våken oppmerksomhet er intelligens mor
