The Power of Will
“I slept with faith and found a corpse in my arms on awakening, I danced all night with doubt and found her a virgin in the morning”- Aleister Crowley

In spiritual disciplines and magic, you will hear the term “Will “used often.
The will is a magical discipline all on its own, used as part of the magician’s (or witch’s) toolkit of power.
Your will is inevitable.
Should you aspire to be successful in your spiritual workings, you will need to strengthen the will. But what about your everyday existence?
Can you use the power of will beyond magic?
Why is the human will such an important part of magical practices? What’s its purpose outside of magic and what makes it such a vital discipline in magic and life?
The true meaning of will
The power of will has moved beyond practical uses and made its way into the spiritual world.
To “will” in its spiritual form is the ability to align one’s thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions with a specific purpose according to a desired end.
Will is the core ingredient of magic
When you think of magic, what comes to mind?
Many people are unaware that they practice magic daily.
To have a burning desire and then to act on it by various means and methods until a specific goal is achieved, is the human will in action- and this is magic in its most basic form.
Magic is the ability to bring forth a desire by way of the will -that is by way of aligned thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and actions.
To have a relentless attitude towards a burning desire and the discipline to do what’s necessary to achieve it, is magic… and will.
The Power of Will in everyday life
As stated earlier though, the will is not only something we use in the spiritual world.
You must understand that will and magic are something woven deep within the human collective consciousness.
Your will is congruent with human survival.
Nothing in life is ever accomplished without a human will, even the most basic of needs. Human beings need these things: Love, clothing, food, and shelter, and we use our will every day to obtain and maintain them.
You, going to bed every night and rising early every morning to make sure you get to work is an example of will.
Without proper rest, you will lack the strength and motivation to get up and go to work.
Moreover, it takes a great deal of discipline to get up and go do a job we hate every day.
It takes even more discipline to align our actions (going to bed early) with a specific purpose (going to work) for a specific cause (livelihood) when we dislike our jobs in the first place.
The human will is seen in practically all we do in our lives, every day.
To Will is to make things happen
Religious people pray, hoping there’s a God that hears them.
But we spiritual folk exercise our will.
If a prayer of a religious person is to be answered, and a wish is to be fulfilled it wasn’t because of the imaginary savior, but because of their strong unwavering belief in their methods of power.
For belief is a great part of the will.
Through belief and strong emotion, a magician encloses a single point, object, or desire of circumstance generating within himself an emotional frenzy of belief and feelings of the wish fulfilled.
As he/she rises to the peak of imagination, crystalizing the feeling of the desire as if it’s already happened, with his/her power of belief or unwavering faith in his method, he releases the energy out into the Universe, gets up from his spiritual workings and awaits patiently for the desire to manifest into the physical realm.
In this sense, prayer is no different.
The method may vary, but the elements are the same: Belief (or faith in the outcome,) strong emotion, a point of desire, and action …The Will.
Will, always prevail
Will is undoubtedly the most powerful force driving all human endeavors.
Without the will, nothing will be possible, but with it, all things are possible. Your will is the ability to perceive the desired change and execute it, aligning your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions until the outcome is achieved.
We do this on a small scale daily and a much larger scale in those instances when big changes are necessary.
In spirituality, the will relates directly to magic and is one of the most valuable tools in the magician’s toolkit. The will is just as important, however, to the common man as it is to the magician.
In an uncertain and sometimes frightening world, there is this one thing that remains true:
Thy will be done, always.
