The Power of Surrender
There is a quiet beauty in letting go, if one only puts in the effort to see it through.
Many of us view surrender as a weak act, one born out of a lack of courage. Many of us also believe we are smart, but the truly intelligent are humbled by how much they don’t know rather than emboldened by what little they do know.
The beauty of surrender lies in its hidden power. We often think that willpower is the key to the life we want to live. It is not. Surrender is. Only by admitting honestly and openly what we do not know as well as what we can’t control do we begin to improve and grow in every aspect of our lives.
I know this may seem counterintuitive at first. However, the truth is, in the grand scheme of things, we control very little in our day-to-day lives. When we really take a step back and look at our lives, we are only in control of our attitudes and emotions, and many of us are not even in complete control of these two things.
When’s the last time you lost your temper or said something you later regretted? Odds are, it was not that long ago. Even if you are not the type to lose your temper, we are all human. We all make mistakes and say things we shouldn’t at times. Only once we surrender and realize that we are not in complete control of everything that happens to us can we begin the journey of self-growth.
When we realize we are not bound to the behaviors, emotions, or reactions of others or ourselves, it is a highly freeing feeling. This only comes about from surrender.
Surrender to what, you may ask? The truth is, it really doesn’t matter what you surrender to as long as it is legitimate and complete. Surrender to any power greater than yourself. It can be the Universe, God, a tomato, or nature. The more infallible said entity is, the less likely you will lose faith in this process, naturally.
However, it must be something that you believe in that has power over aspects of your life that you do not. Until this belief occurs, until this switch flips in your head, your surrender will be null and void. Meaningless. The sooner you realize the power in powerlessness, the sooner your life will become manageable. The sooner you will start to see things in your life working themselves out.
