The Power of Resilience
Navigating life’s uncertainties with connection and inner strength
Times of uncertainty
In wars past, we walked with uncertainty in uncertain times. Waking up each day, getting dressed, and going about life, perhaps your partner was at war.
People walked with uncertainty; what else could they have done? No matter which era we find ourselves in, there will be times we all have to walk through periods of uncertainty.
Communications
Today, unlike the past generations, we have advanced with mobile telecommunications. We can call on our loved ones from across the world instantaneously.
Imagine a time not being able to know whether your loved ones were dead or alive. Telegrams in world war 1 and 2 were the quickest way to notify loved ones of a death or serious injury; these could take days, weeks, or months to reach their recipient. Families must have felt angst and worry when not knowing the outcome.
World war I used carrier pigeons where telephone lines were non-existent. Incredible, it worked with only a 2% failure rate.
Today, we have the power of instant connection, yet the world still walks in uncertainty, and mental health is rapidly declining.
Life is never certain
Understandably, humans like the certainty of feeling safe and at peace with themselves, but in a world full of uncertainty it helps to be armed with a toolbox of mindset skills. We can then begin to walk happily with uncertainty and a newfound knowledge that life is always working out for our highest good.
I liken life to a good novel or movie; finding ourselves in the plot that is our life, we reach cliffhangers and points of no return. On occasion, we have to choose a path where we have reached a crossroads.
Do we pick the comfortable, safe path or the challenging route, which can be fraught with angst but ultimately rewarding?
The cliffhangers of life are the moments where we have to dig deep within ourselves to discover how resilient we are. It is when we are tested to our limits; we pray we will not drown in despair, hoping for a lifeline.
Life is learning to trust that whatever the outcome of our chosen path, it is serving our greater good and highest growth.
How can God allow bad things?
There are unspeakable acts and horrors perpetrated on people still to this day. It is hard to think that there is an all-loving creator that wants the very best for us when we witness and hear of such events.
We question how would an all-loving God allow such things.
We have free will to act out of anger, fear, hate, jealousy, or unconscious behaviour. God or divine intelligence is not separate from us, which is a common misconception. We are the creation and the creators of this existence in our spiritual boot camp called earth.
Cultivating Peace
As a collective, we create the very world we exist in. What could be the answer to cultivating a world that is at peace?
A peaceful world begins with you and me planting seeds of peace everywhere we venture. We can deliver faith and some laughter like bunches of flowers.
The more people can return to this natural state of being, the brighter and more peaceful the world becomes.
The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz is full of spiritual messages that are as true then as they are today. The book was published by L. Frank Baum and Denslow with whom he shared the copyright in 1900. I can watch this film over and over and gain new insights.
“If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it, to begin with.” Noel Langley, The Wizard of Oz
I thought I would share this clip taken from the film as this is one of my favourite quotes below.
