The Power of Loving Yourself First
It’s the only way to be emotionally strong

It’s totally fine to cry. Crying doesn’t mean you are weak. When you are born, it means you’re alive, Mummy.
Love Yourself First
Self-care is a concept most of us ignore. We are too busy looking after the wants and needs of others — isn’t that right, girls? Yes, some guys fall into that trap, too.
The problem is we can’t look after others if we don’t look after ourselves first. We must love the person we are, the body we are in, and everything we do.
Loving yourself first is about taking the time and effort to nurture your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
One crucial aspect of self-care that often gets overlooked is the importance of loving yourself first. When you prioritize self-love, it becomes the foundation upon which all other forms of self-care are built.
It took me a long time to learn this.
My Mummy wasn’t a good example
When I left home to go take on the world, she fell apart. When I came home to visit, she wiped her tears and got on with caring for me.
I was her reason for living.
It was my turn to help her.
I showed her the transformative power of self-love. We worked together on practical tips on how to care for herself by putting herself first. It took a while, I won’t lie, but one day I came back and she wasn’t crying — she wasn’t there.
Hold up. No, she hadn’t disappeared off the face of the earth; she was wild-water swimming with a bunch of friends. She left me a note —
“Make yourself a sandwich, Darling. I’ll be back about six.”
This is how she did it.
The Foundation of Self-Care is Self-Love
Acknowledged her worth
The first step towards loving yourself is to acknowledge your self-worth. You are inherently valuable, simply by being who you are. Embrace your uniqueness and understand that you deserve to be treated with kindness, respect, and love — not just from others, but from yourself as well.
Practiced self-compassion
Be gentle with yourself. When you make a mistake or face a setback, don’t be overly critical. Instead, practice self-compassion. Treat yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer a friend in a similar situation.
Set boundaries
Loving yourself means setting healthy boundaries. Clearly define what you will accept in your life and what you will not tolerate. Setting boundaries not only protects your well-being but also communicates your self-worth to others.
Self-Care Practices that Reflect Self-Love
Prioritized her physical health
Taking care of your physical health is a powerful way to show love to yourself. This includes getting regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough sleep. When you nourish your body, you’re reinforcing your self-worth.
Nurtured emotional well-being
Emotional self-care is equally important. This involves acknowledging your emotions and allowing yourself to feel them without judgment. Seek support from friends, family, or a therapist when needed, and engage in activities that bring you joy and contentment.
Fed her mind
Mental self-care involves nurturing your intellect. Read, learn, and engage in activities that challenge your mind. This not only enhances your self-esteem but also broadens your perspective and understanding of the world.
Cultivated healthy relationships
Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people is an extension of self-love. Avoid toxic relationships and nurture those that uplift and empower you. Healthy connections can significantly contribute to your overall well-being.
Took time for herself
Carve out time in your schedule for activities that bring you happiness and relaxation. Whether it’s practicing a hobby, taking a long bath, or simply enjoying a cup of tea in peace, me-time is essential for recharging your mind and body.
The ripple effect of self-love
When you prioritize self-love as the foundation of your self-care routine, it has a transformative ripple effect. By loving yourself first, you become better equipped to love and care for others. You radiate positivity and become a source of inspiration for those around you.
It’s easy to neglect your own well-being. However, self-love is the cornerstone of self-care. By acknowledging your worth, practicing self-compassion, and setting boundaries, you can create a solid foundation of self-love.
This foundation enables you to engage in self-care practices that promote your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Remember, when you love yourself first, you become better equipped to care for yourself and care for others.
So, start your self-love journey today and watch how it transforms your life for the better.
