Unlocking The Powers Of Delayed Gratification

I can admit that one issue I’ve had for a long time was my want for instant gratification.

I wanted results right now instantly and I found that I wasn’t prepared mentally at times to really dig in and put in the grind of consistent effort over a long period to achieve my goals.

I found that if I wasn’t getting the type of results I wanted in the time frame I wanted, it was easy for me to want to give up, to start-stop things I was working on, or lose sight of what I was working on entirely.

But when I understood how the power of delayed gratification worked, it definitely changed my mind about what is possible and achievable in the future. Delayed gratification is the embodiment of what happens when you have faith in your abilities and trust in the process completely.

Delayed gratification means that things that you work on today, might not have any immediate impact on you or anyone in the short term, but you’d be amazed at what groundwork you are laying for down the line.

Those habits of saving your money start building up and 1 year later, you’ve found that you’ve saved a considerable amount of money which you can put towards an important purchase or investment.

That person you decided to give knowledge and help to today because of the potential you saw in them, becomes someone who can help to open a door of opportunity for you in the future.

That YouTube video you made that didn’t get the views or engagement you wanted initially, suddenly gets discovered and goes viral.

Your talent that went under the radar for a long time finally gets recognized years down the line and you get more attention than you could have ever thought possible.

It happens every single day. The power of delayed gratification is real. Tangible results come later, whether you are prepared for them or not. It’s easy to see the results that others are achieving on a day-to-day basis and through direct or indirect comparison you might let yourself be discouraged when thinking of your own achievements. However, it’s important to consider that the next person’s success may be a result of their own delayed gratification of hard work over a long period.

That’s why I ask you to not let your head go down at not being recognized right now. Do not let yourself be discouraged as you reflect on your own path and think that things are not coming together as you hoped. If you are doing things of quality and substance on a consistent basis, then your time will come. If not now then down the line. And it will be so much sweeter when it does because you have endured the struggle and you’ve overcome it. Delayed gratification makes you strong. It builds your resilience.

I know that things might be hard for you now and you may want to quit due to not seeing tangible results but you cannot be certain of when things will come together for you. If you start laying the groundwork today, then you always give yourself the chance and opportunity to be gratified later.

Your own time is coming and that is something that you must have faith in.
