The Power Has Shifted to the Workers. Why Remote Work Is Here To Stay.
We’ll never go back.

An interesting poll crossed my LinkedIn feed today. From The Female Lead, it asked whether people would consider applying for jobs that didn’t offer remote work. After over 10,000 votes, it’s clear most people won’t.
And why would we?
The pandemic has created a lot of devastation in the world. But perhaps there are a few silver linings.
Quarantine has also helped us rediscover our priorities in life and go after them. Many of these priorities revolve around how we spend our time and who we spend it with.
We workers have realized our worth, are standing up for ourselves, and are quitting in alarming numbers.
Millions of workers are quitting every month in America. It’s unprecedented. It’s disconcerting.
Called “The Great Resignation” or “The Great Reshuffle”, workers have decided not to put up with crappy working conditions. And people have hit their limits.
Even I was one of these people.
Another amazing revelation that came out of quarantine was that many jobs could be done remotely. In addition, it was recognized that employees could be trusted to work remotely.
While a remote environment will not apply to all jobs out there, it applies to so many more than thought previously. Doctors have moved part of their services to tele-med. Even my friends in social work were able to move to a virtual model.
With so many industries being short-staffed, the workers now have the upper hand. And now that we understand our worth, our demands will continue to rise and be met.
Companies are scrambling to find skilled labor. In response, they’re raising wages, rethinking the virtual environment, and finding new and creative ways to attract talent. It’s not even happening just here in America, but all over the world.
The working world of yesterday is no more. The new working world is still emerging.
Remote work will have a larger role in that future. Remote work is here to stay.
