Summary

The article discusses the perceived corruption and ineffectiveness of Greek politicians, who are seen as self-serving rather than working for the public good.

Abstract

The author, based in Greece, expresses deep cynicism towards the country's political class, regardless of party affiliation. Politicians are portrayed as corrupt individuals who exploit their positions for personal gain, making grand promises during elections that consistently go unfulfilled. The article cites specific examples, such as exorbitantly priced benches in Athens and questionable tax practices related to COVID-19 masks, to illustrate the systemic nature of the problem. The author suggests that these issues are not unique to the current era but have persisted throughout history.

Opinions

  • The author believes that Greek politicians, whether from the 'green' or 'blue' parties, are indifferent to the needs of the people and use their positions to enrich themselves.
  • There is a sentiment that political promises are hollow and rarely materialize due to various, often unspecified, obstacles.
  • The author points out a specific instance of potential corruption involving the mayor of Athens and the high cost of installing bicycle lanes, implying that the project is being used to funnel money.
  • Another example provided is the inconsistent taxation on masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, which the author links to the vested interests of a politician's associate who owns a mask factory.
  • The article compares finding an honest politician to finding a virgin in a brothel, emphasizing the author's view that all politicians are inherently dishonest.
  • The author invites readers to subscribe for more insights, suggesting a continued exploration of these themes and a call to action for readers to stay informed.

The Politicians Are the Same

They don’t care about us.

I am living in Greece and I could say that in my country the biggest enemy to progress is the people who are in the government, no matter which party they are from, green or blue ( it is like Democrats and Republicans).

Every four years, the citizens go to vote. Every single time before the election they promise to do thousands of good things for our country and our lives. Every single time they fail. Always something will happen that prevents them to fulfill their promises.

They are corrupt, and they use their position to make money. They don’t give a dame fuck about the single people. They only use them to say nice lies to them so that they will get elected. And the story goes the same way…. every four years…. from the beginning of history.

Because you can blame me that I am from the pessimist or the no-sayers who only wants to put the blame on the fantastic democracy we have, let me tell you two examples of what is going on right now in Greece.

The mayor of Athens who is from a family of well-known politicians is turning the center of Athens in a more “green” scene. Some of the central streets will durn to bicycle ways. Until here I congrats. But can you believe that one bench will cost 5700euros?

-Are you kidding?

-No, I am serious and is not from silver. Nice way to make some money, he? He’ll yeah it is!

I was in the office of a customer and he was speaking with a client who had ordered 20000$value of masks for use against COVID 19. Because of the importance of the masks, the taxes were reduced to 6%, but know they were asking for 24%. You could say that it is normal because in my country the thread is eliminated. But you should know that the best man from one Member of Parliament, has built a factory that produces masks. Furthermore, the taxes for the masks produced in Greece are 6%.

I don’t have to say something more. (I hope that the brain of my valuable readers will make the connections and conclude to the obvious. Were they money goes.)

There is a joke saying, that it is not possible to find a virgin in a brothel. I can’t remember how it goes, but the point is that every single prostitute was claiming that she was a virgin.

The same is true with politicians. All of them swear to God that they are saying the truth. Unfortunately, the truth is that you have the same possibilities to find a virgin prostitute as to find a politician who is saying the truth.

The conclusions ours.
