World Poetry Day 2023
The Poetry of Life
Always a poet

The poetry of life is spoken in the silence we keep In the words we whisper in our introspection deep In the emotions stirred by the dreams we aspire In cold, bitter moments, poetry is a passionate fire
The clouds that fall upon us in sorrowful ways Transform to storms of words where poetry rains The sky spreads above with possibilities so vast Poetry paints life with words, for it passes so fast
It’s in the tears we shed and the pain we endure In the hope to which we cling and our faith that assures In the strength we find, and the courage we hold Poetry is in the miraculous ways our lives unfold
The poetry of life flows as moments are weaved It’s the sun’s rays that warm the autumn leaves It’s the laughter of children and the love we share The moments of happiness, joy, and tender care
Poetry explodes in the stars and shines in the auroral glow It’s upon every breath of the tender breeze that blows Coaxing waves of the ocean rolling from the tranquil calm It’s in the lift of the bird’s wing, in its flight and its song
There’s poetry to be seen in every little thing In the trees, in the weeds, in the flowers of spring In the rise of the day, in the fall of the night In the passing of time, in the mysteries out of sight
The poetry of life has new visions and stories to tell In the memories we make, upon the moments we dwell In our experiences of life and the lessons we’ve learned In the roads we’ve traveled with their twists and turns
Poetry shines in each tear and each smile we share Hidden in the dreams we dream and the love we dare It’s a river flowing rhythmically through unknown lands Giving voice to king tides that we strive to understand
Poetry expounds upon the deep and slows our pace Shining light upon the beauty of each and every face Poetry reveals the truths in life that eyes can’t see It illuminates the shadows and the spaces in between
Life is our canvas, waiting to be painted with inspiration With poetry in every color and shade in creation In every far corner and in every changing hue Poetry is waiting to be written into view
Let us search for what’s hidden, and let us find Poetry in the deepest recesses of our mind Open our eyes to see. Open our ears to hear For in life’s ebb and flow, poetry is always near
Always a Poet
I’ve found poetry hidden in the darkest places, even in the rhythm of my suffering over the past few years. It dances between the ebb and flow of illness and health. It floats between the highs and lows of my life. Poetry rises from the challenges I’ve risen above and the lessons I’ve learned. It’s discovered in the peace hidden in the midst of tragedy.
Poetry rises with me in the morning, casting a soft light on the world and awakening my mind from its slumber. It’s in the smell of fresh coffee and the whistle of my teapot and the feelings these moments evoke within me.
Poetry shows forth beauty in the simplest of things. It’s found in the friendly smile of a passing stranger and the laughter shared between friends. There’s poetry in the peacefulness of a quiet evening, in the comfort of a warm blanket, and in the gentle embrace of a loved one.
Nature is a canvas of poetry, with every element, every color, and every sound contributing to its endless verse. It’s in the rhythm of the clouds sliding across the sky, shaping and reshaping themselves into new forms and patterns. It’s in the whispers of the wind gently rustling the leaves. Poetry is how a symphony of sound is translated into reverberating rhythms upon the poet’s page.
Poetry rises in the fresh air that gently fills my lungs with art. It circulates the oxygen of new perspectives into my depths. It invigorates and energizes me to reach within and paint new life upon the page.
Whether in strict poetic form, in prose, or in how I perceive the world, I will always be a poet.
Thank you for reading.
