The Poetry Lesson
Spenserian Sonnet
She asked if I could help her keep the beat for she was having trouble with the dance She knew I thought pentameter a treat So I came to coach and give to her a chance
The rhythm didn’t come by happenstance And she believed the beat was one she lacked The iams they must put you in a trance Then poetry will follow, have your back
Don't worry if it seems your rhymes are slacked It’s time to feel the poetry inside When the line is right it comes to you and cracks to open up your poetry divide
The poem, complete you’ll settle on a theme; That poetry is harder than it seems
