The Poetic Dancer of Life

. . . A Poetic Essay

“Dancing is the body made poetic.”

The above statement found in a word-puzzle book - (and thus with no known author of it) - found a true resonance with me.

I love to dance! . . . Don’t you?

Whenever I hear music of any kind with a rhythm or a beat my body automatically moves to it.

In the beginning stages of my square-dancing life people asked me about what to them would seem to be a conflict — (since they knew I was a professional classical musician): ‘How could I dance to this very different genre of music.’

Without giving it a single thought, I replied

“I would not want to sit down and listen to this music, but my body loves to move to it!”

I have always said that great music requires the two qualities of unity and variety.

Unity brings forth the feeling of familiarity . . . the comfort of home.

Variety provides the sense of newness . . . the excitement of adventure.

The same is true in the dance and in life.

So how does poetry come into the picture?

I believe poetry needs the qualities of rhythm, lyricism, and flow for the true expression of beauty and meaningfulness.

These same qualities are equally needed in a well-lived life and the dance as well.

Of course there are exceptions when a different scenario is being expressed . . . whether in life or the dance.

Rhyming is also of great importance as an added quality to poetry, as well as in life and the dance.

In life it can be seen as synchronicity . . . and in the dance, as the expression of two or more dancers in perfect unity.

How very fortunate are we as beings in human form who are able to live with the expression of unity and variety . . . and in the beauty of rhythm, lyricism, and flow

. . . as the Poetic Dancers of Life!

Thank you for reading and considering the possibilities of qualities here presented for being a true Poetic Dancer of Life!
