The Physical Movement: Leadership. Remaining Calm Under Pressure.

We all face pressure situations. Sometimes self inflicted, sometimes from outside sources. Staying calm in these situations is a skill. Like most skills to be developed, practice is required.

In this day and age, we have all faced pressure situations.

It could be a deadline for a project at work.

It could be a heated discussion with someone close to us.

It could be running late for a meeting.

It could be a coaching or teaching situation.

It could be disappointing news.

It could be remembering everything on the list to be done before the scheduled event.

It could be small thing, somewhat trivial in the big scope of things, but major at the time.

It could be a life changing emergency.

We have all faced those situations.

So how do we keep calm when stress levels are elevated.

There are scientific studies that will examine what happens to the body and what can be done to stabilize.

How we handle these situations seem to be deeply individual. Meaning depending on each person and situation.

Many recommend meditation and that works well for some.

For others, simply spending 5 minutes of quiet time without distraction, alone, just with your thoughts can be especially soothing. Who would have thought something so simple would be helpful, and a way to practice staying calm. Experts would agree, especially when we live in a constant state of being “on”. The digital and information age has changed that forever.

Unless we learn how to develop the skills to manage it.

Here is a great article on the topic.
