The Perfect Writing Location

Here is a suggestion if your writing location frustrates you.

You often read the difficulties imposed on writers. The complaint will be of all the distractions that occur. People with urgent problems interrupt you. The noise of the place you write such as coffee shops or street cafes.

It is a wonder that as much work gets published as it does. You sense the irritation in many articles you read about writing.

Some writers suggest you should wear earplugs. It may work, but I have an idea for you. Here is my answer to this dilemma. Senior Homes. You will find them in every city.

What I have in mind is not a Nursing Home or an Urgent Care Home. It is Independent Living. It is exactly that.

You come and go as you wish. Here you will have no interruptions when you commune with your Muse.

They organize independent Living Senior Homes much like a hotel. Your space, your apartment, is your own. No one will bother you. You can enjoy your privacy as much as you like.

If you are single or if your life partner is in harmony with your objectives, you can do this.

If you wish to enjoy your meals at your residence, they serve them at set hours. Just go to the dining room and order. They will take care of you promptly.

Then you can go back to your room and start writing again.

If you are so inclined, you can take part in the many activities that take place in a retirement home, but this digression seriously cuts into your writing time.

So despite the enticements of the staff, I suggest you say no and go on with your work.

There are some restrictions of activities during the coronavirus period, but they are modest. There have been no incidents of the plague in my facility.

I am a night person. Usually, write until midnight. I leave my door open, and I am never disturbed.

You will find the cost is less than if you rent an apartment and take your meals at a nearby restaurant. And it saves you time. I discovered this over six years ago when I first considered looking at a Senior facility.

At first, I rejected the idea because it was full of old people. Why would a man still able enough to live anywhere want to live there?

Because I wanted to write and avoid common distractions of life and noise.

When I signed the contract I still was not sure, but time would tell if it was for me. I always wanted to write a book, and the cost and the viability of this lifestyle enabled me to do so.

I published last year.

It surprised my friends when I told them about my choice of residence.

I took a studio apartment and planned to make it my home. I began building my personal library. I went to a local Salvation Army store and bought a five-shelf bookcase and began filling it with purchases from book sales and online purchases. I handpicked these books based on solid recommendations. Many of them masterpieces. Soon I had over one hundred books. Just what I wanted.

It may sound strange, but I like books around me. They are patient friends to keep me company. They permeate the air with silent music. Yes; they sing to me, perfect companions for a writer requiring solitude.

My TV hangs on the wall in front of my desk and I use it to watch the news at a specific time. Otherwise, it stays off. My PC sits in front of me on my desk. My iPad is on a stand to my right and my smartphone to my left. I have contact with the world and my two sons so they can check on me anytime they wish.

They are busy with their own lives but they stand ready to help if I need them. At this stage of my senior life, I do not need a lot of help.

I am ready now for the last chapter of my life. To learn to write and to write well. My dream is before me.

I have planted the seed. It will grow to a sturdy plant and bear fruit.

I suggest to every writer who wants to accomplish the goal of writing their masterpiece to consider this lifestyle. It will work to your advantage

You will move toward your writing goal more rapidly than you ever dreamed.
