The Perfect Storm
How small jolts of fire heighten who I am
O fire, I am not accustomed to your fierceness — even my warring father was more wimp than bite and my brother was often more of a kitten than a lion So your energy doesn’t flow well through my bones Instead, I fear you — the air that I am can stir you up create a blaze so ferocious, I might not drown you out But I do respect you and your purifying nature and that nature gives me courage to accept this fact: My birth year falls upon the bold, independent horse ablaze with fire and overflowing with enthusiasm And so I accept you, fear you, and respect your nature as I draw into me small flashes of your energy that heighten the perfect storm I already am
