Summary

The author, Georgiana Petec, contemplates writing a book titled "The Pedophile's Wife" to cope with the pain inflicted by a pedophile and his wife, who was complicit in the abuse through her inaction and subsequent use of the situation for personal gain.

Abstract

Georgiana Petec reflects on the profound impact of a pedophile and his wife on her life, with the potential to turn her experience into a therapeutic book project. The wife, a primary school teacher and a significant presence in Petec's childhood, is portrayed as a cowardly and selfish individual who ignored the abuse despite knowing about it. Only when her own daughter confirmed the truth did she act, not out of empathy or justice, but to secure personal benefits. The pedophile remains free to harm others, a fact that fuels Petec's resentment towards his wife. The author grapples with feelings of hatred, stemming from the wife's lack of empathy and failure to protect innocent children, including herself. Petec envisions the possibility of her book gaining recognition and potentially leading to the exposure of the pedophile.

The prompt was hatred

Looking back at the long row of people who damaged me one way or another there’s still one who haunts me. And because writing for me is cathartic and because I’m aware that the hatred that is still in there is a well-concocted shield to not let the pain get through, I may write a book to deal with the pain. I will call it “The pedophile’s wife”.

Strangely, I blame and resent her more, the creature who’s been around my family and myself during my childhood just as much as her husband. She knew what he was doing. She hid behind doubts and convenient convictions before there was written inexorable truth coming from her own daughter, then she used it to kick him out of the apartment and have his share of it handed to her.

He’s still out there harming girls and there’s nothing I can do about it. Maybe my book will be famous enough one day, maybe I’ll be asked to write it in Romanian, maybe I’ll be asked about his name, maybe, maybe…

In the meantime I’ll still hate this woman for her cowardice, selfishness, pettiness, her lack of empathy and feeling: a primary school teacher, the pedophile’s wife.
